Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. one of important medicinal plants in northern China, is herbaceous plant and possesses significant value in ecological protection. In allusion to the situation of the G.uralensis resources crisis and ecological environment deterioration for medicinal materials being excavated, this study tries to plant Caragana microphylla Lam. with G.uralensis together to satisfy the demand of G.uralensis medicinal materials and protect the ecological environment in Guralensis distributive area. On the basis of field investigation, potted experiment, field experiment and chemical analysis in laboratory, systematic studies were carried out on the interspecies and intraspecies competitive model of G.uralensis and C.microphylla, ecophysiological base, allelopathy, root nodule formation characterislics and the effect of mixing growth on the medicinal materials quality of G.uralensis to explore the interactive mechanism, discuss the possibility of mixting planting and provide theoretical and practice base. The main results are as follows:Commonly, it is seldom observed that G.uralensis and C.microphylla to naturally compose large area mixing community. But result discovers that 14a C.microphylla and Guralensis can grow together well and in field, potted experiment, G.uralensis and C.microphylla can grow normally. Under in field mixing cultivation condition Guralensis, the growth of all parts of G.uralensis and C.microphylla are not effected obviously. Guralensis and C.microphylla can grow across within short distance. The experiment results show that the intraspecies competition of G.uralensis and C.microphylla can not only decrease the biomass but also shorten the rapid growth period and change biomass allocation pattern. Interspecies competition will affect the growth, but the effective extent less than that from inner species competition and the effect on C.microphylla more than on G.uralensis. The effects of interspecies competition on belowground part of G.uralensis and a ground part of C.microphylla are comparatively huge. The analyses on total biomass and competitive rate shows that G.uralensis will appear accrete character unboveder low density and appear antagonizing character under high density. The competitive force of G.uralensis is lower than C.microphylla in two-year-old transplant experiment, but the competitive force of Guralensis is higher than C.microphylla in one-year-old semination experiment. The light responding curve of Curalensis is distinctively different from C.microphylla. The leaf of C.microphylla possesses stronger ability of utilizing faint light. The most photosynthetic rate of Curalensis and C.microphylla is respectively21.7umolCO2 m-2 s-1 and 21.7umolCO2m-2s-1, the light energy transformation ability of G.uralensis is stronger than C.microphylla. The mixing planting of Guralensis and C.microphylla doesn't affect photosynthesis and transpiration seriously. The nitrogen content and phosphorus efficiency in the soil improved under mixing planting model. The water extract of C.microphylla root and stem can restrain the germination of G. uralensis seed, on the other hand, The saturate liquid of G. uralensis can improve the germination of C.microphylla seed, but all the effective extent doesn't reach prominence. The saturate liquid of C.microphylla has not obviously effect on the growth of G. uralensis transplant. Both G.uralensis and C.microphylla belong to Leguminosae have root nodule character and the root nodule of one-year-old seedling mostly distributes in the scope of 10-20 cm depth in the root system. The root nodule mainly distributes on the lateral root and the formation nodule ability can be improved under mixing planting model. The quality of Radix Glycyrrhizae is not obviously affected under mixing planting model. In conclusion, the biology and ecology characteristic of G.uralensis is different from C.microphylla, the interspecies action will not seriously affect growth of both sides. The mixing planting model will not have obviously influence on medicinal m...
