Based on the systematic analyses of the current situations and the main problems of cotton fiber quality in China, the significance of developing high-quality cotton production, the feasibility of optimizing cotton fiber quality, the effects of main cultivating measures and meteorological factors on cotton fiber quality, the differentiation and development of cotton fiber as well as the induction of plant hormones on fiber development, the experiments carried out in crop year 2003 and 2004 mainly observed the characteristics of fiber quality development in high quality upland cotton (G. hirsutum L) Yumian 1 and Kemian 1, investigated the effects of different cultivating measures (planting density, the ratio of N:P2O5:K2O, and mepiquat chemical regulation) on cotton fiber quality, studied the effects of N:P2O5:K2O on fiber quality development, discussed the relationship between physiological characteristics in subtending leaves, boll walls as well as fiber and cotton fiber development, analyzed the effects of heat and light factors in different latitudes in Jiangsu province on cotton fiber quality. The main results were as follows.1. With Sumian 16 (conventional cotton, average fiber quality) as the control, the characteristics of fiber quality development and endogenous hormones in high quality cotton (G. hirsutum L.) Kemian 1 (Bt. transgenic cotton, high fiber quality) and Yumian 1 (conventional cotton, high fiber quality) were studied. Compared with Sumian 16, rapid...
