Four experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of nutrients on ascite syndrome (AS) incidence of broilers and the possible mechanism. On the basis of successful creation of ascite model by supplementing T3 into diet and exposing broilers into low ambient temperature, hypoxia inducible factor-1 α(HIF-1α) gene was cloned and proved to be related to the development of ascites. The effects of dietary vitamin C and energy density and energy source on ascites of broilers under three weeks of age were then studied. The objective is to unveil the effects of nutrients on the incidence of ascites and the possible mechanism by checking growth rates, nutrient availability, serum biochemical indexes, oxidative and anti-oxidative ability, oxgygen consumption and the expression of HIF-1α gene in broilers.Exp.1 Effects of AS on Growth Performance, Nutrient Availability and Haematological Parameters of BroilersThe experiment aimed to set up an AS model for the next series of trials. 120 Arbor Acres chickens of 1 day old were randomly divided into 2 groups (the control group and the test group). There were 6 replicates with 10 broilers each. AS was induced in test group by exposing the birds into low ambient temperature (LAT) and feeding birds with diet containing 1.5mg/kg 3,3',5-triiodothyronine (T3). LAT program was that the room temperature was about 15 ℃ , the cage temperature was about 25 ℃ at first week and thereafter dropping to 20 ℃ at second week. The broilers in the control group were fed...
