This research aims to identify the biodiversity hotspots in Beijing Area by using birds as index. Based on the distribution of current established nature reserves, and the result of bird species'diversity among these reserves, the research also use Gap analysis to find the unprotected areas. Finally, the research gives some suggestions on the future planning of the nature reserves in Beijing Area. The investigation of bird species'diversity employs the belt transect method. The width of belt transects is 100m,and the birds are recorded by direct observation or by identify the singing of the birds. The reorganization of bird species in direct observation is according to A Field Guide to the Birds of China. The habitat type, population size are also recorded. The diversity indexes include Shannon-Wiener Index, Species Evenness Index, and G-F Index. The data are analyzed by SPSS, Excel and ArcGIS software.15 order, 41 families, 98 genus, 182 species are recorded, of which the Palaearctic Realm species are 65.4%,oriental Realm species are 18.7%,eurychoric species are 15.9 %. The result of diversity indexes shows that birds diversity in Labagou Reserve and Wulingshan Reserve are the highest, Songshan Reserve, Baihuashan Reserve, Puwa Reserve and Yunmengshan Reserve lower, and Shihuadong Reserve the lowest. However, the result of G-F Index suggests that birds diversity in Labagou Reserve, Songshan Reserve, Puwa Reserve, and Wulingshan Reserve are the highest, Baihuashan Reserve and Yunmengshan Reserve lower, and Shihuadong Reserve the lowest. The seven nature reserves are classified into three types on their conservation priorities, I. key areas, including Songshan Reserve and Labagou Reserve, II. important areas; including Wulingshan Reserve, Puwa Reserve, and Wulingshan Reserve, III, common areas, including Baihuashan Reserve and Shihuadong Reserve. New conservation planning is also suggested on the protection of birds'diversity in Beijing Area.
