The monitoring of terrestrial wildlife epidemic diseases was a new responsibility for forestry administration in the new period after Animal Plague Emergency Handling Mechanism was in action. The distribution pattern of terrestrial wildlife has been investigated in this dissertation. And then, the monitoring system and information transmission system of terrestrial wildlife epidemic diseases in Zhejiang province was also set up. Theses systems have played very important roles in prevention and control of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Zhejiang. The results of terrestrial wildlife investigation in Zhejiang were concluded as follows:â‘ There were many species of amphibian and reptile in mountain areas of Southern Zhejiang, but the number of species was the smallest in islands and coastal areas of southeastern Zhejiang. The community structure of amphibian was simple and mainly consisted of genus rana in all five areas. The characteristics of reptile community structure in islands and coastal areas of southeastern Zhejiang was significantly different from that of other four areas in Zhejiang.â‘¡The species number of beasts was biggest in hill and mountain areas of western Zhejiang. The main composition of beasts were rodentia and chiroptera in four areas, but the beasts community structure of islands and coastal areas of southeastern Zhejiang was different.â‘¢There were 19 orders of birds in Zhejiang, and 45.5% were passerine birds. 10 orders such as passerine, falconiformes, galliformes, etc. lived in mountain and forest area. Most of bird species of each order were found in islands and coastal areas of southeastern Zhejiang, and the distribution in northwestern Zhejiang was different for different orders. 33.8% of species were winter migrants and 32.6% were residents. But residents of passerine birds were more than winter migrants. There were only 276 institutions for wildlife domestication and propagation and 1125 institutions for wildlife utilization in Zhejiang. There were 360 species bred in zoo, most of which were mainly concentrated in Hangzhou, Ningbo and Wenzhou.According to the distribution conditions of the two types of institutions, it was advised that the supervision system for wildlife monitoring should be set up in key control areas such as Hangzhou, Ningbo, Jinhua and Quzhou. The monitoring and information transmission system for terrestrial wildlife epidemic diseases has been constructed. The plan for constructing long-time monitoring system was made on the results of wildlife resources investigation, which has completed on the base of the previous work of the monitoring stations. The monitoring system consisted of 27 terrestrial wildlife epidemic diseases monitoring stations, in which there were 10 national stations. And the corresponding organization establishment, facilities construction, monitoring methods and policies making were implemented step by step. The information transmission system, which consisted of wildlife network management system and epidemic diseases early-warning system based on GIS, was preliminarily constructed. Wildlife network management system has been put into use in monitoring work. And the open database of terrestrial wildlife domesticated and utilized has not been built. The monitoring system played an important role in prevention and control of highly pathogenic avian influenza(HPAI) in Zhejiang. In recent two yeas after monitoring system constructed, there were 64 wildlife abnormal death events found, which was related to 9 kind wild birds. The measures were taken in time according to the early-warning system. The results of investigation for coastal wetland migratory birds were useful for construction of monitoring stations and technical Progress for monitoring HPAI. The monitoring work was an very important step in HPAI preventing.
