? A grand challenge in the post-genomic era is a complete computer representation of the cell and the organism, which will enable computational prediction of higher-level complexity of cellular processes and organism behavior from genomic information. From molecular genetics point of view, the mechanisms of gene expression controlling production traits are special at different stages of growth in bovine, such as newborn and adult bulls. These differences may be genetic researched by microarray technology at molecular level. In order to establish the correlation between biological processes and the mechanisms of gene expression controlling production traits formation in bovine, microarray analysis was performed to capture the differences in gene expression related to production traits profile in Longissimus Dorsi Muscle Tissue between 1-month and 24-month Chinese Red Steppes. 1282 (5.6%) probes showed significant differences at the two stages in the experiment, and 1008 differential gene annotations were obtained using Capitalbio molecule annotation system. BLAST analysis revealed that 1001(78.1%) probe genes shared significant similarity in amino acid sequence with other functional genes (As of June 2009). 126 genes showing strong correlation with beef traits were gained by the GO analysis, among which 96 were up-regulated, while 30 were down-regulated. Similarly, 71 genes (47 up-regulated; 24 down-regulated) with growth and development traits and 18 genes (13 up-regulated; 5 down-regulated) with disease resistance traits were obtained. With the KEGG analysis, 63 pathways were found to be related to beef traits which involved 73 genes, and 20 genes (involved 69 genes) to growth and development traits and 42 genes (involved 109 genes) to disease resistance traits. The panels of transcripts and gene pathways analysis in different growth stages may be helpful for the study on production traits formation, and the gene expression profile construction in Longissimus Dorsi Muscle Tissues, would make a foundation for screening candidate genes which have genetic effect on production traits in bovine.
