in the dissertation, the author discussed some basic concepts and viewpoints of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the following four parts. The viewpoint of human body that regards human body as an organic whole, a mini-world and a moderate system was discussed in the first part. Meanwhile the concept of viscera, meridian, Qi.. blood.. essence, body fluid, spirit was analyzed .In the second part, the author discussed the viewpoint of disease that regards disease as a state and a process, no boundary line with health. It considered that disease is reversible and reflected out in many ways, while death is irreversible. The concept of etiology.. pathogenesis.. symptom.. syndrome.. disease was analyzed. In the third part, the author discussed the viewpoint of diagnosis that considers that diagnosis of TCM indicating catching information of disease by doctor's feeling organs. The aim of diagnosis is collecting symptoms of disease perfectly and exactly and differentiating and analyzing them, then determining etiology and pathogenesis of disease. Whether diagnosis and differentiation are right or not can be tested by predicting disease's change and receiving treatment's effect. The author also discussed the skill of four examination methods and the relationship of diagnosis and differentiation. In the fourth part, the author expressed the viewpoint of treatment. Exact diagnosis s prerequisite of effective treatment. Scheme of treatment accords to etiology and pathogenesis. General principle of treatment is eliminating evil to support healthy energy, moderating the balance of the body. Etiology treatment is the most directly and effectively. There are many ways and methods of TCM treatment, drug being only one of them. Effect of endogenous factor of body was stressed in TCM and all treatment must have prerequisite of maintaining the body healthy energy. The highest level of treatment is preventive treatment.
