Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of MR phase-contrast cine technique in cerebrospinal fluid and cerebral blood flow quantification by establish appropriate flow phantoms. Material and methods: Tube flow phantoms were established and simulate cerebrospinal fluid and cerebral blood flow respectively. Flow signal intensity of the steady flow in tubes was measured by MR phase-contrast cine technique. The correlation between flow signal intensity and the corresponding velocity were analyzed and the transform function formulas of the two models were also obtained by the SPSS statistical analysis software bag. Velocity results in tube of different steady or pulsatile flow were measured by MR phase-contrast cine technique. To validate the accuracy of this method the results were compared with the laser Doppler anemometer (LDA) measurements. Different measure angle were also performed. Measure results were compared with the true value and the measure error of different measure angle were thus obtained. Results: (1) Linearity correlation between flow signal intensity and corresponding velocity were obtained and the correlation coefficients are 0.994 and 0.985 respectively. The transform function formula between flow signal intensity (Y)and corresponding velocity(X) of the two models were Y= -0.006X2+22.302X+8.503 and Y= -0.0908X2+ 24.176X-15.304 respectively. (2)No statistical difference between the MR intensity datas of the tube flow while the repeat test(P> 0.05) , the measurement error of the two phantom during the repeat test were less than 10%.(3) Correlations between values obtained by MR phase-contrast cine method and LDA method were P< 0.01 and r=0.933 respectively. (4)With the measure angle (θ) increased, the transverse area of the signal determined by phase-contrast MRI was also increased, the value of flow velocity was decreased, thus the measure error was increased .Conclusion: MR phase-contrast cine technique is a reliable method to measure flow velocity in terms of both feasibility and accuracy. The accuracy is based on the appropriate scan parameter and exact image post-processions.
