Arbutin , one kind of traditional Chinese herbs, is acquired from the vaccinium vitis-idea L, an ericacea plant where grows in the HeiLong Jiang province. The cell model of oxidative-stress damage was made successfully by hydrogen peroxide in human umbilicus vein endothelial cells. The cultured cells were divided into four groups: control group, damage group in which H2O2 was given, arbutin group in which arbutin was added before and GSH group in which GSH was added before as well. The cell condition in four groups were observed under the light microscope, the surviving cells were counted by MTT, the level of lipid peroxidation in cells was determinded by MDA and T-AOC was used to measure the cell ability against the oxidation . The results demonstrated that there were significant differences between damage group and arbutin group in cell growth condition ,MDA and MTT. Our tests have demonstrated that arbutin can protect the human endothelium cells from the damage by H2O2. In the future ,we shall continue to elucidate the mechanism of antioxidation of arbutin .
