For the sake of the essence of traditional medicines and also for revealing some of the principles of epistemology in traditional medicines, we made the comparative study on traditional Mongolian medicine and traditional Chinese medicine concerning the theory ideal and technique. The result is that we did find the similarities of the two medicines in philosophical assumptions, diagnostic methods, herbals, prescriptions and disciplines of treatment. However the obvious differences of the two are also recognized by the light of their corresponding medical systems and even the cultural background of different nationalities. We believe the general principle of epistemology constructs the similar aspects of traditional medicines, while their differences may due to the epistemological subjects each has its own cause, objective environment, practice pattern. It's the different subjects lead to the disparities between traditional Chinese medicine and traditional Mongolian medicine by different methods of knowing. The tree of traditional medicine roots deeply into the earth of its national culture which nourishes the leaves of wisdom to shelter its people, though foreign branches may become part of the skeleton of the whole tree. From a more macroscopic point of view we can see the Mongolian medicine is not only a kind of traditional medical science, but also is a special approach to observe the phenomena of life and thus constitutes part of its social culture. The limited absorption of the culture of China central plains, the formation of Mongolian language and the import of Buddhism are the key pointsthat affected the foundation of the theoretical system of Mongolianmedicine.
