| There are more than 18 kinds of Cimicifuga species in the world, and they are distributed in the north temperate zone, ten of them are distributed in China and its resources are plentiful. Xing'an Sheng-ma (C.dahurica Thurez Maxim), is also called Bei-Shengma in China. Its rhizome has been used as traditional medicine recorded in the Chinese pharmacopoeia (2000 edition). It has function of "heat-clearing and detoxicating" and is used for "wind-heat headache", metroptosis etc. The total glycosides of the aerial part showed significant activity to the model of osteoprogenitor cell-line (HOS TE85) in 10-9 g/L in vitro. Therefore, the chemical investigation was carried out for looking for new active natural products and resource utilization.By employing modern chromatographic techniques and spectrometric analysis (IR, UV, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT, 1H-1H COSY.HMQC, HMBC, NOESY, EI-MS, FAB-MS, ESI-MS) and X-ray crystal diffraction technique individually as well as classical chemical methods, 35 compounds were isolated from the active fraction of the aerial parts and there structures were elucidated, of which 10 (110) are new natural products, and of which 15 are isolated from the species for the first time.The new compounds belong to cyclolanostanol xylosides, to be named as: Cimilactone A, (1, 12β-acetoxy-3β-β-D-xylopyranosyloxy-24,25,26,27-tetranor-9,19-cyclolanost-16,23-lactone), Cimilactone B, (2, 12β-acetoxy-3β-β-D-xylopyranosyloxy-24,25,26,27-tetranor-9,19-cyclolanost-7-ene-16,23-lactone), Cimidahuside C, (3, l2β-acetoxy-15-oxo-shengmanol-3-O-β-D-xylopyrano side).
