After cold storage with HCS solution or UW solution, the morphological change of rat hearts were observed; the energy metabolism was measured, and the hemodynamic parameters were assessed with Langendorff apparatus. The results demonstrated that the myocardial degeneration, necrosis or swelling of mitochondria was less severe for rat hearts preserved in HCS than in UW solution, and myocardial ATP content in HCS was much higher than in UW solution; similarly, the hemodynamic parameters of the rat hearts in HCS was better than those in UW. Thus, it was concluded that HCS solution might alleviate myocardial damage, elevate ATP content and protect myocardial function after cold storage. Its effect in preserving rat heart was better than UW solution and HCS solution for heart storage might play important role in the clinical heart transplantation.
