Objectives: To observe the preservation effect of cold storage of canine kidneys with self-designed multiple organ preservation solution (SMO) by comparing with HTK and UW solution. Methods: The changes of cell morphology were observed by light microscope and electron microscope. The oxygen free radical injury was examined by TBA and xanthinoxidase. Apoptosis index (AI) of cortex cell was examined by TUMEL. The energy metabolism was indirectly observed by Clark Oxygen electrode and measurement of the activity of Na~+-K~+ATPase. Results: The changes of cell morphology in group S MO were milder than those in group HTK. At 48h the activity of SOD in group SMO was higher than that in group HTK (P<0.01).At each time point, the content of MDA in group SMO was lower than that in group HTK (P<0.05). Except the time point of 24h, the AI in group SMO was lower than that in group HTK (P<0.05). At 48h and 72h, the RCR and ADP/O in group SMO were higher than those in group HTK( P<0.05). At 72h the activity of Na~+-K~+ATPase was higher than that in group HTK (P<0.05). All items above in group SMO were similar to group UW at each time point (P>0.05). Conclusion: We considered that SMO solution was superior to HTK solution and similar to UW solution on protecting cell from cold-induced damage.
