The configuration of the balloon has great influence on the effect of intra-aortic balloon pumping( IABP). In order to improve the effect of IABP, on the basis of computer simulation, we developed one new kind double intra-aortic balloon and its effect was studied in mock system and animal experiments.In vitro mock experiment, the double balloons, in which the ratio of distal chamber volume to proximal chamber volume was 4:3 had the greatest diastolic augmentation . when the volume of distal chamber was same, the larger the diameter, the greater the diastolic augmentation . According to this, and from the point of clinical practice, we developed the optimized double intra-aortic balloon (ODIAB). The principle points of the design are: the volume ratio of diatal chamber to proximal chamber is 4:3, the diameter of distal chamber is 3mm larger than that of proximal chamber, and the air holes of catheter in the distal chamber have larger diameter, and the number is more than that in proximal chamber.In health mongrel dog, hemodynamic comparision were made between ODIAB , common double intra-aortic balloon (CDIAB) and single intra-aortic balloon(SIAB). ODIAB has the greatest diastolic augmentation and increase of coronary blood flow. The systolic unloding effect was not different between these three kinds balloon. There was no effect of decreasing the work of health heart.
