BACKGROUNDEndometriosis is a common benign disease that affects 10 to 15% of women of reproductive age. As the pathogenesis remains unclearly, the current therapies is not satisfactory. Among the several pathogenetic theories, Sampson's theory of retrograde menstruation is the most commonly accepted one. However, retrograde menstruation occurs in 80 to 90% of women. The much lower prevalence of endometriosis suggests that additional factors determine susceptibility to endometriosis.Recent years, leading by Professor Lang Jinghe, the researchers from PUMCH have been doing a lot of works at EM study, and have made a large progress. Abnormal potential of adherence, aggression and angiogenesis of the eutopic endometrium from EM patients were confirmed, and several new genes were discovered. Based on these data, Prof. Lang proposed a new theory to EM, the "Abnormal Eutopic Endometrium Theory". According to this theory, the main factor to determine the susceptibility to endometriosis is the abnormal adherence, aggression and angiogenesis potential of the eutopic endometrium. Retrograde menstruation just provide a essential passage. "Abnormal Eutopic Endometrium Theory" is a very important revisal to Sampson's theory of retrograde menstruation. Furthermore, deriving from this new theory, Prof. Lang proposed another hypothesis for the therapy of EM, the "Source Therapeutics", briefly, treatment of eutopic endometrium is the essential treatment of EM."Abnormal Eutopic Endometrium Theory" and "Source Therapeutics" are two important contributions to EM study. But, before the confirmation of these two theories finally, there are still a lot of work to do:(1)There are many medicines for EM, but the curative effects of them are not very satisfactory. How can "Abnormal Eutopic Endometrium Theory" explain these facts? In another word, if the response of eutopic endometrium of EM patients to these medicines is different from the normal women's...
