Chapter 1:Establishment of a cerebral vasospasm model in dogs aftersubarachnoid hemorrhageOBJECTIVE: To establish a cerebral vasospasm model in dogs after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).METHODS: A cerebral vasospasm model was produced in three dogs by double intracisternal injection of autologous arterial blood. Cerebral arteriography, neurological function, immunohistology and appetite were analyzed to assess vasospasm on days 1, 3,7 and 14 following onset of subarachnoid hemorrhage.RESULTS: Making food decreased less than 50% in two dogs and 50-100%in one dog. Neurological disorders were observed in two dogs with a scale of 2 and one dog with a scale of 3. Gross observation confirmed a large amount of blood gathering around arteries in basilar cistern and inflammation in blood vessels. In addition, the basilar artery became smaller and stiffen The immunohistochemistry showed injured endothelial cells and brain edema. Angiography demonstrated severe cerebral vasospasm, especially the basilar artery.CONCLUSIONS: A cerebral vasospasm model could be successfully established by double intracisternal injection of autologous arterial blood, which...
