Since the first"American Digital Human"was appeared, the"Digital Life", which can realize visualization of organism structures and can simulate the entire organism accurately, has brought enormous values to scientific research and economy. And now it has been a hotspot of scientific research."Digital Small Animal", which is an important component of"Digital Life", has more advantages in fundamental scientific research than"Digital Human"and will benefit the study of"Digital Life". Now several"Digital Small Animal"projects have been carried out in abroad and"Chinese Virtual Human"was also actualized, but"Digital Small Animal"research is empty in domestic. So we selected SD rat, which is an ordinary small experimental animal, as an objective, and tried to construct the digital SD rat atlas of entire anatomy based on reading more documentations. Finally, we obtained the rat atlas and we also researched on the"virtual visible rat". The work we have finished is:1. Freezing-cutting imaging technology was firstly chosen to prepare the horizontal sections of small animal anatomy. The keyspots of small animal specimen preparation, such as animal selecting, specimen preparation and data acquiring etc, were explored, and in the end an ideal preparation technology of small animal atlas were established. Freezing-cutting imaging technology is a common preparation technology of big animal specimen anatomical atlas and our studies extended its application and provided a new method for studying the digital small animal;2. The technology of injecting the whole body was explored to display the blood vessels of small animal atlas. The compounds and the ratio of injection mixture were studied. In addition, a detecting technology for evaluating the quality of blood vessels injection earlier was developed. The research on digital blood vessel for small animal provides a foundation for studying the function of vessels from new aspect;3. The acquisition of cryosectional images of whole rat was finished in 15 days and specimen preparation spent 10 days. The SD rat atlas occupies a total of 9,475 pages and transverse section images were captured in 4,600×2,580×24-bit BMP format with a pixel size of 0.020 mm×0.020 mm and the thickness of slice is 0.020 mm, which made the volume of atlas is up to 314.68 Gbyte. Acquisition of arterial vessel cryosectional images took 3 days and specimen preparation spent 7 days, 1,464 cryosectional images with the same format as above were also obtained (the interval between cryosectional images is 0.10 mm and the pixel size is 0.020 mm×0.020 mm) and the volume of rat arterial atlas is 77.90 GByte. This color rat atlas provides a template for the next studies, such as"integrating and visualizing"rat information etc;4. The primary studies of"visual rat"has been carried out. The segmentation and reconstruction of inner organs of rat atlas were also finished and these organs are as following: brain, oesophagus, skeleton, stomach, intestine, heart, lung, liver, kidney, spleen. The rat atlas coordinate were done base on above. And the web of"digital rat atlas"was also constructed.
