A Study On The Genesis Of Naxi Mythical Epic

As a significant book that artistically reflects all-around of ancient society, history, religion, folk-customs, literature and so many other respects of the Naxi ethnic, the Naxi myth epic Genesis not only has a rich connotation of ethnic, history and culture, but also has a profound and wild-ranging influence on social and cultural lives of later generations. Therefore, it is an "encyclopedia" of ancient Naxi, and also a historical and cultural "root spectrum" of them. With myth symbol as the main theoretical foundation, literature survey as the main research method, throughout close-reading of text and comprehensive research of myth epic’s multi-subjects value, the thesis systematically explores into the rich ethnic cultural and historical connotations of myth epic, and preliminarily discusses the problem of protection and inheritance of the myth epic in the process of modernization at present.This thesis consists of five parts. The first chapter is introduction. Against the background of implementing "Chinese ancient books protection plan" projected by the government and persistent overheating of intangible cultural heritage protection boom in this new age, the thesis collates relative research achievements about Genesis, expounds academic value and realistic significance of comprehensive researches on Genesis, and puts forward the basic thought of the thesis.The second chapter is "an introduction to history and culture of Naxi ethnic society". With a systematical collating of Naxi ethnic’s population, language, characters, ethnic name, historical origin, economic lives, historical culture, etc., the thesis introduces the historical and cultural background of comprehensive researching of Genesis.The third chapter is literature basis of the research of Genesis. The author introduces the general outline of Genesis, its unique status among ancient Naxi literatures and the minority’s myth epics, and universality of Naxi’s culture distribution and diversity of its inheritance form. Moreover, it puts forward the literature and content basis of the research.Chapter Four is the value of the research on the culture behind Genesis. Based on the comprehension of literature text, puts forth effort to deeply explore into Naxi original economical lives, original view of universe, ancient philosophical thoughts, ancient marriage and family patterns, original religion, folk customs, traditional aesthetical ideas and feature of arts implied in the Genesis. The author regards Genesis as the encyclopedia of ancient Naxi society, core classics of Dongbaism, the best folk literature and other ethnic historical and cultural multi-level accumulation body. It reflects all-around of social and economic lives such as gathering, fishing, hunting, husbandry land, textile and medicine, and diverse marriage pattern, like the original blood-mixed marriage and dual marriage. The records of origin of everything and birth of human beings in Genesis reflect their original views of universe and simple materialism thoughts. What’s more, it has a profound influence on the development of their ethnic history and it still has a strong social function in the respects of culture, religions, folk customs, and arts of modern lives.Chapter Five is a discussion about Genesis’s protection and inheritance. The author analyses the achievements and challenges they are facing when protecting and inheriting the Genesis. It preliminarily discusses how to protect and inherit the myth epic under the background of modernization, and puts forward basic ideas about protection and inheritance of Genesis, such as attaching equal importance to rescue and development, government support and private participation.
