| Modern essays made remarkable achievements in the20th century, writers such as Lu Xun wrote a large number prose with fighting spirit, what painted a glorious picture in modern literature history. In distinct contrast to the essays by Zhou Zuoren, Lin Yutang, Liang Shiqiu and Yu Pingbo ect, their leisure essays also made contribution to modern literary history with leisure style. Because those leisure essays obtained high artistic achievement for its unique poetic style, this paper aims to study the leisure spirit of modern essays, to research original source of the modern essays’ leisure spirit, essence and in the creation of essays exploring in depth the inherent spirit of leisure prose, revealing its intrinsic spirit.This paper is divided into six chapters:Chapter1:The first chapter mainly deals with modern essays writers’s attitude towards life, that is,"contemplation of the pleasures of life":They pursued the joy and comforts of life, they regarded life with appreciation and experienced delighted, elegant temperaments human life. Thus, those writers also eulogized and praised happiness and cheerfulness. But only by abstinence could they truly experienced the pleasures of life.Chapter2:This chapter mainly deals with the unique expression in modern leisure essays with leisure life experience. The performance of the leisure and the spirit of modern essays are mostly created in the middle age of the writers, because of the fact that practical and rational cultural traditions and severe real life experience impelled them to pay more attention to the secular philosophy of life. However, the harsh reality did not allow them to calmly enjoy leisure life in modern sense, their pleasure just was "sweetening the bitterness of destiny".Chapter3:Chapter III discusses modern leisure essays reflected the writer’s real spirit, this leisure spirit fully expressed the writer’s soul of creation. This main purport contained poetic pursuit of life. At the same time, seclusion phenomena leisure spirit is not ostracism, of which bury head in earth to enjoy them happiness. This resources’ can be divided into two parts, the first includes Chinese traditional leisure culture (Confucianism, Taoism and Zen Buddhism), Tao Yuan-ming as the representative of Seclusion Culture and the late Ming Era’s leisure prose’s; the second sources are from exotic leisure culture, including modern sketch prose of the leisure spirit of ancient Greece leisure thought, British and French essays and Japanese leisure culture.Conclusion:The last part of paper mainly discuss modern leisure essays’value of the times, the leisure spirit of modern essays fully embodies modern human spirit with elegant, harmonious aesthetic character, inducing people to realize the immediate reality, obtaining the relative freedom of unrestrained human nature in mind, returning to the humanity goodness, to the beauty of humanity.
