Through perspective of art, the thesis makes a research on bronze wares of the ancient Dian kingdom in Yunnan by analyzing semiotics and culture.There has been sufficient subjects studies about the ancient Dian kingdom bronze,such as archaeology, sociology, ethnology, religion, folklore, metallurgy. However, researches on sculptures of bronze are relatively rare, especially from aesthetic aspect. Micro observation to details and traits of bronze sculptures is to be explores. On account of influence of original religion,the ancient Fang states, and multi-cultures, the ancient Dian bronze sculptures was characterized with mysterious and spirituality. Thus, the thesis dissects the artistic charm of it from cultural source and gene with methods of modern arts.The ancient Dian kingdom, owning unique history and location, witnessed multi-national fusion for thousand years, which was the foundation of the ancient Dian bronze sculptures being unique and mature.Analyzing Dian bronze sculptures form aspects of formalism and semiotics leads to inter-discipline study on art language, aesthesis concept and the bronze sculptures between the ancient Dian Kingdom and its neighboring states. Adding researches of folklore, mythology, ethnology and literature, the author tries to dissect aesthesis value,cultural value and function of the bronze sculptures. And the thesis makes an effort to prove the bronze sculpture, the spiritual symbol of the ancient Dian kingdom, is an achievement of multi-cultural exchanges.
