The excavation of the graves of Dian culture has shown the world the mysterious and bright culture of the ancient Dian Kingdom. A great deal of dancing images upon the bronze wares are giving us a model of dancing culture of Yunnan, and truthfully showing us again ancient Dian people's spirit and culture. There is a significance of studying those dancing images, as the Dian Kingdom is the first era of a great achievement in dancing in Yunnan minority dancing history. This essay tries to study from the following perspectives: 1.systemically collecting, reorganizing, inducing and analyzing the dancing images. 2. Addressing them with the politics, economy and religion of the Dian Kingdom.There are six parts in this essay. The Introduction proposes the motivation and significance of this study and defines study scope and some concepts, and advances research points and method based upon the situation and existing problem in current academic society. The Chapter 1 addresses the physical and historical background of the ancient Dian Kingdom dancing, collects and reorganizes the dancing images on the bronze wares and puts them in a chart. The Chapter 2 analyzes the static form and dynamic characteristics of the dancing images by dividing them into tow categories, which is, dancing by holding stage-ties and dancing bare-handed. The Chapter 3, based upon the analyses of former chapter, introduces other important elements which compose the dancing content, and studies the ancient Dian Kingdom dancing with in-depth anatomy with respect to its scenario, finery and stage-ties. The Chapter 4 reveals the course of the characteristic of the ancient Dian Kingdom dancing culture, and analyzes the social function and aesthetic meaning of the dancing. The Conclusion sums up my research work in this essay, and also represents follow-up study questions.
