Yu-liang Pan is a female painter in the period of the Republic of China(1912—1949).By the heat of Republic of China,in the late 1980’s, people starting to pay more attention to Yu-liang Pan’s art work. Meanwhile, the study about Yu-liang and her painting was increased. Through a variety of dramatic art forms, deductive yu-liang Pan and her prototype has obvious difference, the cognition of her is inappropriate and untrue, the research of her artistic achievement and the level of her painting is more or less too high. This paper aims to carding yu-liang Pan’s painting image, time background and literature works; analyzing her art achievement and value objective, and finally determine yu-liang Pan’s status in the art history of Republic of China and Chinese modern art history as a female artist.In this paper some questionable points from the past are being discussed,also examining issues which no concern to academia previously. From painting ontology, analysis of the technique characteristics of painting line, stroke and color. Female nude is the key study which is one of the most characteristic also a large number of her art works, through the comparison of horizontal and vertical, explain the achievements in her artworks of female nude. This paper analysis the formation of yu-liang Pan’s painting style. There are three main points: Firstly, yu-liang Pan is in the trend of women’s liberation in the early 20 th century, women seeking independence consciousness is the foundation of the painting style formation; Secondly, yu-liang Pan likes the subject of female nude, and her paintings reflect the “male”and”female”temperament of coexisting situation, because her life experience leads to the recognition of male authority, but was unable to escape the female identity, the identity and the viewing angle is contradictory; Thirdly, under the influence of China and Western modernism painting trends, yu-liang Pan’s artwork have mark of academic, impressionist,post-impressionist and fauvism paintings, and later works is famous for her line drawing and color painting.In the affirmation of its historical significance and value, at the same time, also analysis the lack of her painting art, limitations and the reasons behind. Put yu-liang Pan’s phenomenon in the overall environment of the Republic of China, the emphasis is on the “oriental” in painting creation and revelation, in a positive evolution in the art of the Republic of China and to accurate positioning of yu-liang Pan’s art of painting.
