Performance And Network Of Research Collaboration In Technological Innovation-oriented City

The construction of technological innovation-oriented city depends on the research activities of the internal main innovation actors. With the complication of innovation activities and increasing in research costs, collaborative innovation has become the main form of innovation activities. Therefore, it is important to study on the performance and network of research collaboration in technological innovation-oriented city.By taking the relationship between research collaboration and innovation as the starting point, firstly, the paper makes econometric analysis on the innovative performance of different research modes of main innovation actors in technological innovation-oriented city, points out the necessity of research collaboration network construction. Secondly, the paper examines the spatial feature of the main innovation actors in technological innovation-oriented city, and states the basis of building internal research collaboration network. Finally, the internal research collaboration network of technological innovation-oriented city is studied systematically from overall network and network detail structure, and the advantages and deficiencies of existing network are identified.Based on the above research, some important conclusions are drawn as follows:(1) The main innovation actors’performance of research collaboration in technological innovation-oriented city is unsatisfactory. The performance of internal research is much better than that of research collaboration, and shows steady. The Different research collaboration mode shows different innovation performance. Collaboration between enterprises can significantly increase new products sales, while has negative impact on patent output; the impact of university-industry collaboration on new product sales and patent output are all not significant, the impact on new product sales is even negative; the impact of research institution-industry collaboration on two types of output are not significant, research institution-industry collaboration increases new products sales, while has negative impact on patent output. Building a perfect internal research collaboration network can solve the failure of research collaboration to some extent.(2) The main innovation actors in technological innovation-oriented city have the features of spatial clustering and coupling. In technological innovation-oriented city, the spatial distribution of high-tech enterprises is like multiple nested circles, the amount of enterprises decreases from city center to outer suburb; the high-tech industrial parks are favored by enterprises to settled in; the distribution of enterprises is close to the city main roads; enterprises with different technologies gather in a certain different areas. The spatial distribution of universities and research institutions is also like multiple nested circles, and has the feature of transportation accessibility. The feature of spatial coupling between the main innovation actors is reflected in two aspects:on one hand, the core gathering area position of high-tech enterprises is relatively close to that of universities and research institutions, and their center trend and direction trend are also consistent; on the other hand, the clustering of enterprises nearby the universities and research institutions can generate innovative agglomeration effect. The spatial clustering and coupling of main innovation actors lays the foundation for building internal research collaboration network in technological innovation-oriented city.(3) The research collaboration network in technological innovation-oriented city has both advantages and deficiencies. A large research collaboration network with relatively low density exists in technological innovation-oriented city; the collaboration of enterprises is with’vulnerability’. The research collaboration is mainly on natural science, and the organizations with the same advantages in discipline or industry are adjacent. The research collaboration network is consisted in a multi-core architecture, in which a number of organizations with strong research capacity are as the cores, such as research-oriented universities and research institutions or large enterprises, conversely, the SMEs are mostly in the edge position. The network presents small-world phenomenon, and it is divided into several distinctive subgroups, and there are different levels of collaborative links among subgroups and internal subgroup, but it is lack of’mediator’among subgroups. There are some subnets in response to the advantages of urban industry and discipline, the most important core nodes are some definite universities or small number of enterprises and research institutions. The network has certain robustness, but if the key nodes are removed, the network will collapse.According to the results, we must pay attention to the research collaborative innovation performance of main innovation actors in technological innovation-oriented city, and build research collaboration network by taking advantage of the spatial clustering and coupling of the main innovation actors. We should strengthen the network advantage and take some measures for the network deficiencies, so that the innovation performance of main innovation actors can be improved through the sound research collaboration network, and the construction of technological innovation-oriented city can be promoted.
