Innovations of organizations are doubly embedded in knowledge networks constituted by coupling among knowledge elements and in social networks formed by collaborative relationships among organizations. This study uses the co-applied patents of China's Information and Communications Technology(ICT)industry granted in China's State Intellectual Property Office(SIPO)to build knowledge networks and industry-university-research institution collaboration networks respectively, and extracts a large samples of panel data of 6,832 companies, empirically analyzing the influence of structural characteristics of knowledge networks and collaboration networks on firm's dual-innovation performance. The results indicate that: knowledge networks and industry-university--research institution collaboration networks in China's ICT industry are decoupled, and the structural characteristics of the two networks influence firm's dual-innovation performance in diverse ways.Firstly, direct ties of enterprise's knowledge elementsin knowledge network have an inverted U-shaped effect on both exploitative innovation and exploratory innovation;direct ties of enterprises in the industry-university-research institution collaboration networks have an inverted U-shaped effect on both exploitative innovation and exploratory innovation.Secondly, indirect ties of enterprise's knowledge elements in knowledge network have a significant positive effect on both exploitative innovation and exploratory innovation;indirect ties of enterprises in the industry-university-research institution collaboration networks have a significant positive effect on its exploitative innovation, but not its exploratory innovation.Thirdly,non-redundancy among ties in a knowledge network exhibits the opposite effect, hindering exploitative innovation, but favoring exploratory innovation.non-redundancy among ties in a industry-university-research institution collaboration network favors both exploitative innovation and exploratory innovation. The results of this paper are helpful to expand relevant studies on the relationship between network structural characteristics and innovation performance, and to help enterprises formulate relevant strategies to enhance their competitiveness. Its also help the state and government departments to formulate policies to promote the development of high-tech industries in China.
