The distribution industry plays an important role in the national economy growthas an intermediate link between production and consumption, the distributiondevelopment is considered an important lever of promoting rural consumer market, the apparent urban-rural distribution dual structure is a characteristic of distributionindustry in China, the backward rural distribution system has delayed seriously theprocess of rural markets, and suppresses farmers’ consumption, and becomes the newbottleneck faced by rural economy development. This paper tries to construct themechanism model of these factors effect on rural consumption from aspects of ruraldistribution development scale、organization、environment and distribution gap inorder to evaluate distribution industry’s influence on rural consumptioncomprehensively、 systematically and scientifically, and analyzes empirically theeffect of the above factors on rural consumption levels、 consumption behavior, consumption rates and the consumption gap between urban and rural areas. This paper is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter elucidates thebackground, meaning, content, methods, paths and innovations etc.. The secondchapter reviews and evaluates literature of distribution influence on ruralconsumption at home and abroad from the rural distribution’s different perspective. The third chapter is the mechanism analysis of distribution industry on ruralconsumption. This chapter defines distribution industry, and describes thedevelopment situation of rural distribution in China. It analyzes the impactmechanism of distribution industry on rural consumption from the perspective of thedirect and indirect, and analyzes the direct influence of distribution industry on ruralconsumption from the perspective of the commodity and agricultural productsdistribution, and tests the indirect impact of distribution industry on ruralconsumption from the perspective of promoting rural economic growth. The fourthchapter is the effect analysis of distribution industry development on ruralconsumption. Firstly, it uses state space model of time-varying parameter to analyzedynamic influence of the rural distribution total scale、 country market anddistribution environment on rural consumption, and estimates time-varyingcontribution rate of these factors on rural consumption. Secondly, this chapteranalyzes the impact mechanism of township distribution companies on ruralconsumption, and employs labor productivity、number and operating income asproxy variable of township enterprise development, and uses panel data model to analyze the influence of township distribution company on rural consumption.Thefifth chapter analyzes the impact mechanism of distribution environment on ruralconsumption and builds the theoretical model of the both relationship. Firstly, it usesordered probit model to analyze distribution environment’s effect on ruralconsumption from the microscopic perspective based on the rural micro-survey datain four provinces; Secondly, it uses panel data model to analyze empiricallyinfluence of the rural distribution infrastructure and the marketization degree on ruralconsumption structure based on the provincial macro data in China. The sixthchapter builds the theoretical model of the relationship of the distribution gap andrural consumption, and establishes evaluation index system of urban-ruraldistribution gap, and uses factor analysis to evaluate the degree of distribution gapbetween urban and rural over the years, and uses time-varying parameter model toanalyze dynamic influence of distribution gap on rural consumption rate andconsumption gap between urban and rural. The seven chapter draws correspondingconclusions and puts forward some policy recommendationsSome main conclusions are drawn in this study. Firstly, distributiondevelopment and rural economic growth is highly correlated, there are the long-termequilibrium relationship and dynamic adjustment mechanism between them. As aguide industry, the distribution industry not only can affect directly the ruraleconomic growth by the way of improving rural economic output and ruralemployment, but also can affect indirectly the rural economic growth by the way ofimproving farmers’ income、 promoting urbanization and stimulating rural fixedassets investment. Secondly, it is positive and increasing year by year for theelasticity coefficient of the rural distribution total scale causing rural consumptiongrowth, but the development of rural distribution industry is slow, so contributionration of distribution total scale on rural consumption growth doesn’t increasesignificantly with elasticity coefficient rising. Compared with the urban, thecontribution ration has changed little in most years. Thirdly, the influence oftownship distribution enterprise’s labor productivity、number and operating incomeon rural consumption is significant. The impact of operating income on ruralconsumption is the greatest, it is positive that the labor productivity of distributionenterprise affects rural consumption, but there is a significant difference for theinfluence between the eastern, central and western, and depends on the level ofeconomic development in the region. The impact of enterprise number on ruralconsumption is not significant in the eastern region, but it is positive impact forcentral and western, the influence of distribution enterprise number in westernregions is larger than the eastern. As the most traditional rural distribution organization, the country market plays a very important role to rural consumerspending in the early years of reform and opening up, the influence of countrymarket on rural consumption is weakened gradually with new distribution formatentering、 farmer’s income increasing and improvement of the distributionenvironment. Fourthly, rural commodity market standardization、 distributioninfrastructure、organizations supporting facilities、quality of service、attitude andextent of the government’s emphasis on rural commodity distribution have asignificant impact on rural consumption.“Inconvenience of water and electricity”、“shop shortage”、“the poor ancillary services”、“expired product”etc. have asignificant negative effect on rural consumption. As a new form of the agriculturaland industrial product distribution, the linkage of farmland and super market and theappliances to the countryside have a significant positive correlation on ruralconsumption. The distribution infrastructure has a significant impact on ruralconsumption structure, the effect of marketization degree on rural consumptionspending is larger than distribution infrastructure. The distribution infrastructuredoes not affect the category of survival consumption expenditure. The category ofdevelopment and enjoyment consumption expenditure strongly depends on thedistribution infrastructure, so the distribution infrastructure produces the greatestimpact on it. Fifthly, the degree of distribution gap is from decreasing to increasingbefore1997, but it keeps a serious status in most years. There is a significantimprovement for distribution gap degree after1997, and it keeps a higher level. There is notable difference for the influence of distribution gap on rural consumptionrate and consumption gap between urban and rural in different period. Narrowingdistribution gap can increase rural consumption rate and reduce the consumption gap;On the contrary, it can reduce the rural consumption rate and widen gap. In the end, this paper puts forward some policy recommendations about distribution total scale、township distribution enterprises、distribution environment and distribution gap.The innovation lies in:Firstly, the innovation of research perspective. The impact research ofdistribution industry on rural consumption focused on one aspect in previous studies, such as most studied focused on rural consumption levels, and little attention to ruralconsumer behavior、the consumption rate and consumption gap between urban andrural. This paper study comprehensively、systematically and scientifically the impactof distribution industry on rural consumption level、 consumption behavior、consumption rate and consumption gap from different aspects of rural distributionsystem.Secondly, the innovation of integrated measurement methods. The previous empirical research analyzes the average effect of distribution industry on ruralconsumption by the linear regression model of fixed parameter, the fixed-parametermodel is difficult to estimate the variability impact of distribution developmentscale、distribution organization、distribution environment and distribution gap onrural consumption at different times, to a certain extent, which is very difficult toreflect the true role of distribution industry on rural consumption. In this research, uses multivariate statistical methods and varying parameter model to study thedynamic influence of distribution industry on rural consumption; uses canonicalcorrelation methods and SVAR model to analyzes empirically correlation anddynamic lag impact of distribution industry on rural consumption, uses state spacemodel to analyze dynamic effect of the rural distribution total scale、country marketand distribution environment on rural consumption; uses factor analysis methods andstate space model to analyzes dynamic influence of distribution gap on ruralconsumption rate and consumption gap between urban and rural.Thirdly, this paper tests the impact of township distribution enterprises、distribution environment and distribution gap on rural consumption by theoreticalmodels and empirical analysis. In previous research, a large number of literatureonly stay in the theoretical analysis about the influence research of distributionorganizations、distribution environment and distribution gap on rural consumption, little literature studies the effects of these factor on rural consumption frommathematical models or empirical perspective. This paper builds the impactmechanism of township distribution companies on rural consumption, uses paneldata model to analyze the influence of township distribution enterprise laborproductivity、 number and operating income on rural consumption. Try to buildmathematical models between distribution environment and rural consumptionbehavior from consumer utility, uses ordered probit model and panel data model toanalyzes empirically influence of distribution environment on rural consumptionfrom the microscopic perspective based on the rural micro-survey data in fourprovinces and macro data, and builds the theoretical model of the relationship of thedistribution gap and rural consumption from the perspective of distribution gapaffecting commodity distribution efficiency between urban and rural, and establishesevaluation index system of urban-rural distribution gap, and uses factor analysis toevaluate distribution gap degree between urban and rural over the years, andanalyzes dynamic influence of distribution gap on rural consumption rate andconsumption gap between urban and rural.
