Essays On The Transformation Of China’s Foreign Economic Development Pattern

Since the reform and opening-up, China’s foreign trade has made remarkable achievements.Total foreign trade value has increased from20.6billion dollar (1978) to more than4160billiondollar (2013) which increased by201times and ranked from32to first. But at the same time isalso associated with many serious economic structure and social ecological problems. Exportmore products but with unreasonable structure; export industry has high energy consumption,high pollution, high investment and low efficiency, export enterprise excessive dependence onforeign technology, lack of independent intellectual property right innovation and so on.Traditional extensive foreign economic development pattern has apparently cannot adapt to theneed of economic and social development, so we must make adjustments as soon as possible.Based on the theory of foreign economic development pattern, this paper analyzes thehistory and current situation of the transformation of China’s foreign economic developmentpattern, points out the current existing problems, constructs the evaluation index system andcarries on the empirical analysis to evaluate the effect of the transformation, analyzes the mainfactors, puts forward the rationalization proposals and takes Jilin province as a case analysis oflocal change practice.Chapter1is the introduction. This chapter introduces the background and the significanceof this research. Also reviews the correlation literature and describes the paper’s analyticalmethods and structure. Then this chapter describes the innovation and inadequacy of this paper.Chapter2is to discuss the basic transformation theory of foreign economic developmentpattern. Firstly, describe the proposes process of the transformation of China’s foreign economicdevelopment pattern and defines the connotation of "economic growth","economic developmentpattern","foreign economic development pattern" and so on. Foreign economic developmentpattern is a very broad concept, anything that has effects on foreign economic growth-for better or worse, reasonable or not-belongs to the category of foreign economic development pattern.Secondly, state the theoretical basis of foreign economic development pattern, includingeconomic growth theory, the traditional theory of international trade and foreign economictheory of Marxism.Chapter3is to investigate the transforming process of the foreign economic developmentpattern. Before the reform and opening up, China implemented the import substitution strategy inthe complex international political environment, and took the extensive foreign economicdevelopment pattern. After the reform and opening up, experiencing the foreign economicsystem reform and strategic adjustment, China’s foreign economic development pattern fromsurpluses and deficits, commodity structure and mode of trade has been transformed and hasobtained some achievements.Chapter4is the research on present transformation situation of foreign economicdevelopment pattern. Facing the uncertainty situation of international economic and challengefor the sustainable development of domestic economy, transform the foreign economicdevelopment pattern has become an urgent task. Although China’s foreign economicdevelopment has made some achievements in recent years, there are still many existing problems:excessive emphasis on exports causing a large surplus and low efficiency; high and newtechnology product developing rapidly, but with structural imbalances; being called” the worldfactory”, but actually the “world fabrication plant”; foreign economic development beingimbalance between regions; service trade lagging behind the trade in goods;"bringing in" and "going out" being imbalance. All these problems need be adjusted andchanged.Chapter5is to construct the evaluation system of foreign economic development patternand carry out empirical study. Through the selection of the main evaluation index, construct theevaluation system and measure the effect of China’s transformation of foreign economicdevelopment pattern by using SPSS19.0with foreign economic data. The result shows that theforeign economic development pattern has been improved during the past30years, but has beenstagnating and even worse since2004. The main reason for worse is that the indicators of structure, competitiveness and environment is declining and the ability to resist the risk isweak.Chapter6is to take Jilin province as a regional practice example of the transformation ofthe foreign economic development pattern. As a less developed area, Jilin province facing manyproblems, such as small economic scale and large deficit; unreasonable export structure andweak role of advantage industry; less foreign investment with unreasonable distribution;unbalanced development in the province and so on. During the transformation of the foreigneconomic development pattern, we should intensify efforts to export and playits location advantage; deepen the agricultural comparative advantage and building industrycompetitive advantage; bring human capital into full play; build a service-oriented government.Chapter7is to analyze the restricting factors of transforming the foreign economicdevelopment pattern and to put forward policy recommendations. Due to the restriction ofperception, factors of production, economic system and mechanism, and technology innovationability, the transformation of China’s foreign economic development pattern face some resistance.The proposal is that from the aspects of structural transformation, transformation of developmentmode, and improvement of government functions, the desired effect of transformation could beachieved.
