Implementing horizontal integration strategy and participating in cross-regional competition is one important way for horizontal integration enterprises to enhance their international competitiveness. However, they are affected by the special situation during domestic transitional period, which is that domestic market segmentation not only creates opportunities such as comparative advantages come from competing with multinational and regional enterprises, beneficial region distribution of the value chain and the accumulation of cross-regional management experience, but also brings challenges such as operating cost,risks and slow integration speed. Therefore, they not only need to overcome the challenges and seize the opportunities, but also need to collect information of competitors and market as much as possible so as to make full use of advantages and balance between national Integration and response to local, balance between the market and non-market ability acording to domestic market segmentation. Under these condition,the role of the top management team become more important, so it is well worth to study the influence of top management team on cross-regional competition for horizontal integration enterprises. Although there are abundant correlational studies, there still some shortages as following: First, the study of cross-regional competition is mainly base on international market while base on domestic market which is segmented are not enough.Second, the study of the top management team mainly focuses on demographic characteristics while some characteristics related to the system context are ignored. What’s more, previous researches often studied by one certain feature alone and ignored the mutual interaction of many kinds of characteristics.Third, the existing researches studied just from independent perspective and they needs to be integrated. In view of these,this paper study the effects of top management team characteristics related to the system context on cross-regional competition behavior of horizontal integration enterprises. The specific questions are included:(1)What’s the effects of heterogeneity characteristics(native place, regional work experience,sources of labor market)of top management team on cross-regional competition behavior?(2)What’s the effects of faultline characteristics(compose of native place, regional work experience,sources of labor market)of top management team on cross-regional competition behavior?(3)Whether the above effects are influenced by the situation of market segmentation which horizontal integration enterprises confront?To answer the above problems, this paper put forward the relation model among senior top management team characteristics, market segmentation and enterprises cross-competition behavior, and make corresponding assumptions, which base reviewing existing domestic andoversea relative literature. Then select 294 samples of the air conditioning, automotive and real estate during 2001 to 2013, and collect data of cross-regional competition behavior and top management team characteristics, through by correlation test and regression analysis, this paper get conclusion as following:First, top management team heterogeneity of native place and regional work experience can prompt horizontal integration enterprises to adopt more positive competition behavior,which shown in more action and broader competition field. Second, top management team faultline are negatively related to action propensity and competitive area range, which mean that the split and conflict within the team will reduce enterprises’ competitive desire and narrow their competitive area range.Third, market segmentation positively moderate the relation between top management team heterogeneity(native place,regional work experience)and action propensity,the relation between top management team heterogeneity(native place,regional work experience) and competitive area range, the relation between top management team faultline(compose of native place, regional work experience,sources of labor market) and action propensity, the relation between top management team faultline(compose of native place, regional work experience,sources of labor market) and competitive area range 。 It means that more obvious and great effects of top management team heterogeneity(native place,regional work experience) on the cross-regional competition behavior under the greater degree of market segmentation. Fourth, the most ideal top management team should be that members not only have heterogeneity characteristics, but also avoid making them league with each other.The innovations and contributions of this paper as following: First, by embedding the domestic market segmentation situation, this paper extended the study of enterprises’ cross-regional competition from internation market to regions market within a country, and revealed the effects of domestic regional different system on enterprises’ cross-regional competition behavior, which enriched and expanded the researches on enterprises’ crossregional competition.Second, this paper studied the effects of top management team characteristics related to task situation on competition decision-making from the top echelon theoretical perspective and basing on cross-regional competition.Besides,the paper studied from individual characteristic alone and study from interaction by various kinds of characteristics meantime, which enriched and expanded the researches on top management team. Moreover, this study has answered the question that how to set up top management team of horizontal integration when participate in cross-regional competition under domestic market segmentation situation. Third, this paper studied the relationship between topmanagement team characteristics of horizontal integration enterprises and cross-regional competition behavior, has enriched and expanded relative horizontal integration research.Fourth, this paper integrates the multiple perspective researches, which is help to fully understand the cross regional competition behavior of horizontal integration enterprises.
