Establish Of Logistics Hub For Najin Port Of North Korea And Eurasia Initiative

Recently, Northeast Asian countries around South Korea have propelled critical strategies and policies;‘Development of Rajin-Sunbong Economic Special Zone’ of North Korea, ’Development of Jiang-Jil-Tu Province’ of China. ’Development of the Maritime Province of Siberia’ of Russia, and ’Development of Western Coast Area of National Industry’ of Japan. Thus, to secure and to enhance the national interests of South Korea in Northeast Asian region, the country should establish and implement innovative future strategies.As a part of the future strategy, South Korea should continue pursuing to become a central nation in the Northeast Asian logistics and create new economic development power by strengthening and promoting the country’s competitive power and influence on the East Seat Rim region. Above all, South Korea should actively participate in and support not only North Korea’s current development project which strategically emphasizes on harbor development in Rajin-Sunbong Economic Special Zone but also ‘Rajin-Khasan Logistics Project Development’ considered as the bridgehead of the harbor development project.Especially, the construction of logistics system between‘Rajin-Khasan’will become the basis of Eurasian Initiative of creating ‘One Continent’through its connection to TKR-TSR. This will also establish a complex logistics network which connects the Northeast regions of Eurasia through railways and roads and which eventually reaches Europe. This network will realize the dream of ‘Silk Road Express(SRX)” which, starting from Busan, penetrates North Korea, Russia, China and Central Asia and Europe.Through this participation and support, as North Korea’s Rajin-Sunbong Economic Special Zone emerges as a Northeast Asia’s logistics hub port, South Korean will be able to use Rajin-Sunbong region as a bridgehead to secure transshipment cargos by bringing in newly-created volume of goods of that region to the Busan port. Especially, the connection of Trans Siberia Railway(TSR) to Trans Korea Railway(TKR) will realize the construction of the North-South direct logistics route, which will be a breakthrough in leading the Northeast Asian economic powers.Considering the geopolitical significance of the Rajin-Sunbong region, it would be a deciding factor to take a lead in preoccupying political, economic, military, diplomatic, security benefits in North East Asia who becomes aware of the importance of the North Korea’s ‘Rajin-Khasan Logistics Project’and actively tries to realize it, because the project aims at establishing the strategic point of the‘International Complex Logistics Network’in the Far East. Therefore, the South Korean government and companies should take a long range view rather than pursue immediate gains in participating in and supporting the Rajin-Khasan Logistics Project,’for the national interests and future.
