Forests are cores of ecosystems; they can not only improve the environment which is affected by industrial pollution, but also purify urban life. They have three major benefits that are ecological, economic and social. They can provide ecological, material and cultural services or products, and these have become essential resources for human survival and economic development. Many kinds of services to develop forestry are diverse needs put forward to adapt to social development. This means that the development of forestry is required by the society itself. The acceleration of forestry development is inevitable. In fact, forestry development is an important way to solve the "three rural" issues. Countries should further promote the development of forestry and put stress on the importance of forestry management. As neighboring countries, China and South Korea share many similarities, in terms of forestry management mechanisms. This paper compares forestry management mechanisms between China and Korea, in order to recommend some policies that could be used as basis for the management of forests in both countries. Main research methods:(1) Comparative analysis:a one-by-one analysis of forestry management components in both countries; in order to find differences, analyze causes and make assessments; (2) Literature research:accurately and thoroughly understand our research question through the studing and reading of a great deal of forestry-management-related literature materials; (3) Expert consultation: before carrying out the research, we took part to many meetings during which experts provided guidance and correction regarding issues related to our study, such as factors affecting forestry management, comparison of forestry managements between China and Korea, improvement plans and policy recommendations etc.Main research objectives:(1) summarize the current situation and problems of the two countries’ forest resources. These problems include:large timber supply and demand gap, high dependency on foreign timber, low supply capacity, high forestry production costs, serious rural labor decreasing and aging, influence of forest tenure reform, and influence of environmental change and green growth; (2) comparative analysis of pros and cons of forestry management components between China and Korea, including forestry management systems, financing systems, forestry economic cooperatives, professional teams, and building of forestry infrastructures; (3) find differences and similarities that exist between Chinese and Korean forestry managements; (4) summarize enlightenments that we draw from our study of each country; (5) recommend policies that could be used as forestry management basis in both countries to strengthen forestry bilateral cooperation.Main Findings:(1) both countries don’t have enough forestry resources, and demand for timber keeps rising; (2) factors affecting forestry management in China and in Korea are concentrated in the following five elements:forestry management systems, financing systems, forestry economic cooperatives, professional teams and forestry infrastructure; (3) our comparative analysis shows also that components of forestry managements have advantages and drawbacks; (4) both countries have experiences from which lessons could be drawn, in other words, they could learn from each other; (5) throughout this comparative analysis, we have put forward policy recommendations as basis for a better forestry management.
