The importance of employee creativity has been recognized by most enterprises, in order to improve the creative performance, there is the intensification of competition’s pressure among enterprises. Lunch break activities have important effects on creative performance of employees. As a leader, how should he play a proper role to alleviate the pressure of the employees, making employees’lunch break relaxing activity carry out smoothly and then letting employees to work more energetic? What is the mechanism? Companies increasingly take employees’rest time to improve the creative performance. Employees do not have a chance to arrange the activities which they like during the rest time in the work-day. Does the approach of taking employees’rest time to improve the creative performance work? The existing researches do not answer above questions. Therefore, this dissertation shall focused investigate the influence of leadership styles on lunch break relaxing activity and the influencing mechanism of lunch break activities and lunch break autonomy on employee creative performance.The dissertation contains three sub-researches:the first concern is the influences of different leadership styles on lunch break relaxing activity; the second concern different kinds of lunch break activities affects employee creative performance; the last concern impacts of lunch break autonomy on employee creative performance. First, we introduce the research questions, the basic theories, the concepts of variables and so forth. Second, we elaborate the research design and the situation of data collection in each sub-research. In line with the questionnaires from 759 employees of 16 organizations, by using SPSS software, we analyze the data, and test the serial hypotheses respectively. Lastly, the dissertation summarizes the theoretical and practical implications of the findings and clarifies the limitations and future research direction. The main findings of the dissertation are as follows.Based on self-determination theory, research1 builds the mechanism model to examine impacts of empowering leadership and abusive leadership on lunch break relaxing activity. The results found that empowering leadership have positive influence on lunch break relaxing activity, while abusive leadership have negative influence on lunch break relaxing activity. Psychological empowerment partly mediates the impacts of empowering leadership and abusive leadership on lunchbreak relaxing activity. Job involvement has the positive moderating effect in the relationship of abusive leadership and psychological empowerment.Based on ego depletion theory and conservation of resources theory, research2 examines the impacts of lunch break activities on creative performance of employees, and the mediating effect of job involvement. We found that relaxing activity, work activity and social activity during the lunch break have positive influence on employee creative performance. Job involvement completely mediates the relationship between work activity and employee creative performance, partly mediates social activity’impact.Based on self-determination theory, research3 builds the mechanism model to examine impacts of lunch break autonomy on creative performance of employees. We found that lunch break autonomy has positive influence on employee creative performance. Job involvement partly mediates lunch break autonomy’ impact. Intrinsic motivational orientation has the positive moderating effect between lunch break autonomy and job involvement.These findings show that leadership styles can result in the significant effects for the lunch break relaxing activity of employees. Leaders should pay attention to the psychological state of employees in time and adjust constantly the management styles. They ought to empower employees actively, providing support and space for launching lunch break relaxing activity smoothly. Then, the sub-research results declare besides lunch break relaxing activity, lunch break work activity and social activity also can improve the creative performance of employees, providing a favorable basis for guiding employees to arrange lunch break activities reasonably. At last, the sub-research confirmed that giving employees lunch break autonomy has significantly positive influence on their creative performance. This finding claims that managers should not blindly pay more attention to the autonomy in the work. They ought to avoid bring work pressure for employees in the lunch break and give them more autonomy in the rest. The sub-research provides a new path for companies to improve the creative performance.
