After several decades' development, water-soluble polymers have grown from a few of products to a whole water-soluble polymers industry. They have been used in many fields of people's life and national economy due to their excellent performance. There are many water-soluble polymers used in petroleum industry too, especially in china, as a result of tertiary recovery, a great amount of water-soluble polymers have been consuming.Although great contribution has been making, the water-soluble polymers in used can not cope with the severer and severer requirements of application in many oilfields any longer. So experts of oilfield chemistry are looking for new kinds of water-soluble polymers. One of those polymers is called as hydrophobk association water-soluble polymers, in fact, this kind of polymers is the hot point of the research working in water-soluble polymer in the world.The dream of oilfield chemistry workers is designing and producing hydrophobic association water-soluble polymers with required performances. Before this dream come true, lots of theory foundations are needed, the most important foundation is what conformation the polymers will be in water solution. However, most research of hydrophobic association water-soluble polymers focused in their solution's rheology and their interaction with surfactant, only few touched upon their solution conformation. So, despite of the special performances of hydrophobic association water-soluble polymers solution have a very good explanation, as a network construction of polymer is building up in its solution, it's only a surmise, few evidences are holden.Accordingly, proving and characterization of the network construction of hydrophobic association water-soluble polymers was determined as the purpose ofthis dissertation work.The first step, model hydrophobic association water-soluble polymers and contrastive model polymers were synthesized by free radical copolymerization. The molecule structure of those polymers was characterized.Then, fluorescence and ultraviolet spectrum came into use. By the measure of pyrene's spectrum, hydrophobic domain was discovered in hydrophobic association water-soluble polymer's solution, even if the concentration of polymer was very low. The number of hydrophobic domains increases with the polymer concentration and the content of hydrophobic group on the polymer chains. On the other hand, no hydrophobic domain was found out in the solution of polyacrylamide.Experiments in dynamic light scattering showed that the hydrophobic association water-soluble polymer could establish a kind of supermolecule aggregate in the water. This kind of aggregate has no a regular shape. It could be broken up under shearing, and reestablished when shearing was taken away. The higher the concentration of polymer solution is, the quicker the aggregate recovers.illAtom force microscope can be used to observe the polymers' conformation in water solution under normal temperature and pressure. This was the first time to use this instrument to research the solution structure of hydrophobic association water-soluble polymers and made a cheering success. Under the test conditions, no any network structure was founded in the solution of polyacrylamide; however, very clear network structure was appeared in the solution of hydrophobic association water-soluble polymer.Research with transmission electron microscope requires of strict process of specimen preparation, or it is possible to appear severe false image. Preparing samples from freeze, etch, to replica under very low temperature was proved a good way to avoid from false image. The photographs showed that hydrophobic association water-soluble polymer could form a space network structure in water solution. This network structure was composed with irregular meshes. No preponderant shape and size of the meshes was founded.Based on the front results and literature survey work, a special rheology of hydrophobic association water-soluble polymer solution was presumed due to its spa...
