Background:CHC is a very harmful infectious disease distributed all over the world, which can easily develop into liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. TCM has substantial advantages in treating this disease although there are still some problems. Objectives:This study aims to specify the distribution characteristics of TCM syndromes of CHC and improve the accuracy of differentiation and hence improve the curative effect and reduce the patients'mortality. Methods:Based on the methodology and principles of clinical epidemiology, the distribution characteristics of TCM syndromes of CHC were studied. In this study, the relevant data bases were set up; the regression and cluster analysis were made; SPSS 17.0 was used. The data about the virological index and the blood serum index, etc. were from 137 patients, who were divided into some groups randomly.Results:(1) In this study,32 relevant articles and 200 questionnaires were collected. 137 cases were observed.Based on the analysis of the relevant literature and the questionnaires and the observation of the 137 patients, the distribution characteristics of TCM syndromes of CHC can be summarized as follows:liver depression and spleen deficiency; obstruction of collaterals by blood stasis; dampness-heat stagnating in spleen; yin deficiency of liver and kidney; lingering pathogen due to deficient vital qi; yang deficiency of spleen and kidney; spleen-qi deficiency; the stagnated heat in liver and stomach; qi deficiency and blood stasis; etc. The locations of the disease are mainly liver and spleen. The disease is often characterized by qi deficiency and liver stagnation. The indicating syndromes in patients are hypodynamia and distending pain in lateral thorax.(2)The clinical experiment:the patients receiving the combining treatment of TCM and western medicine were 86,36 of whom were cured, accounting for 41.8%,11 of whom had a better turn, accounting for 12.7%,18 of whom showed some effectiveness of the treatment, accounting for 20.9%. The group only receiving western medicine treatment had 51 patients,15 of whom were cured, accounting for 29.41%; 5 of whom had a better turn, accounting for 9.8%; 17 of whom did not show any effectiveness, accounting for 33.3%. By the comparison between these two groups, the result can be got:χ2=0.006303, P=0.020559 (P<0.05)Conclusion:1. There is no disease name of CHC in TCM. But according to the clinical symptoms of CHC, it has the same characteristics of costalgia in TCM.2. Through the analysis of the relevant literature, a conclusion can be got that the locations of the disease are mainly liver and spleen; the disease is often characterized by qi deficiency and liver stagnation. The indicating syndromes in patients are hypodynamia and distending pain in lateral thorax. This study emphasized the importance of clearing away heat and removing toxic substances, soothing liver and invigorating spleen.3. Based on the methodology of macro-differentiation of TCM and micro-differentiation of western medicine, the standard of syndrome differentiation of CHC can be reached:liver depression and spleen deficiency; spleen yang-deficiency and kidney yang-deficiency syndrome; syndromes of damp and heat stagnating in spleen; deficiency syndrome of both liver and kidney yin; qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome; blood-stasis obstruction syndrome; the stagnated heat syndrome in the liver and stomach; syndrome of lingering pathogen due to deficient vital qi; spleen qi deficiency syndrome; etc.4. According to the disease locations and the indication of syndromes, the treatment is focused on clearing away heat and removing toxic substances, soothing liver and invigorating spleen. In some specific cases, the therapeutic schemes can be subjected to fine adjustment according to the syndromes of the patients.5. The therapeutic scheme of combining TCM and western medicine can protect liver and lower transaminase, and improve liver fibrosis index; and at the same time improve the patients'tongue coating, pulse and the relevant syndromes. Through the analysis on the SF-36 scales, a fact was found that the treatment to CHC combining TCM and western medicine was effective and greatly improved the patients'life quality. This scheme is much better than the one only using western medicine such as interferon and antiviral drugs.
