The allergic rhinitis (AR) can be considered as one of the most common allergic diseases, especially in the US. The disease can be classified into different types according to the conditions under which it attacks; namely, continuous attack, seasonal attack, or attacks during sudden weather change or when inhaling stimulants. The disease comes and goes and is difficult to control, affecting the patient's social life, studies, and work. It becomes a burden for the family and society, and needing our attention. Therefore, it is relevant that we find out how to prevent and treat AR. Professor Zhou Ping An has years of clinical experience in treating AR, proving that TCM treatment is effective. The Huang Qi Anti-Allergic Decoction(HQAAD) is a product of years of experience by Professor Zhou Ping An, especially for the basic disease cause and pathogenesis of AR.. This study observed the protective effect of Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction on AR rodent models. In this paper, the author investigated the effect of HQAAD on the model of allergic rhinitis in rats, and its effect on the model of allergic symptoms by histamine. To analyze its mechanism, this served as a reliable laboratory experiment for the clinical use of Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction on AR patients. In addition, an 80-case observation of experimental treatment of AR with Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction was carried out in the US, while an epidemiology survey was done with 320 cases. Laboratory Experiment Observation 1. The effect of Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction on AR rodent models Observe the effects of the Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction on the nasal pathohistologic change of AR rodent models and on the histamine levels in their blood and nasal membrane. Results show that the large and small dosage groups of the Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction can improve the pathological change of AR rodent models to different extents (P<0.05). When evaluating the pathologic change of rodent models, it is observed that the large and small dosage groups of the Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction show apparent improvement in pathological changes (P<0.05). Rodents in the large dosage group showed a relevant decrease in their blood histamine level; while those in both large and small dosage groups showed a relevant decrease in the histamine level in their nasal membrane (P<0.05 ). 2. The effects of Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction on the regulation of T lymphocytes and related cell factors and IgE of AR rodent models APAAP, RIA, and ELISA are used to measure the T lymphocytes (CD4 and CD8) condition in the blood, the total IgE level in the serum, and the levels of IL-12 and IL-4 which are the representing factors of TH1/TH2, respectively. These techniques are used to study AR rodent models before and after treatment. Results show that the large dosage group of Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction has a relevant decrease in the total IgE level in the serum (P<0.05). One of the mechanisms of the effect of the Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction on AR may be due to its ability to suppress the level of IgE in the serum. The large dosage group of Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction can relevantly increase the CD4 positive rate in the blood of AR rodent models (P<0.05). The large and small dosage groups of the Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction both show the tendency of increasing the CD8 positive rate in the blood of rodent models; however, when compared to the control model group, the increase is not relevant. The large dosage group of the Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction,Biyuanshu,CPM can significantly increase the CD4/CD8 ratio in the blood of AR rodent models (P<0.05). This implies that one of the mechanisms of the anti-AR function of the Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction may be related to its ability to regulate the balance between CD4 and CD8. The large and small dosage groups of the Huang Qi Anti-Allergy Decoction can lower the IL-4 level in the serum of rodent models, wherein the large dosage group shows a significant decrease in the IL-4 level when compared to the control model grou...
