Depression is one of the mood disorders characterized by marked and lasting depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, diminished ability to think or concentrate or indecisiveness. WHO has pointed out that mental diease is the main diease faced by human being and depression is one of the focal points. WHO considers that its cosmical incidence rate is 15 %~20%.So effective therapy of depression has become a focus of society and the medicine kingdom. Western medicine mainly treats depression with medicaments. Curative effect of some medicaments which are in common use is not satisfactory due to severe side effect, high price and low compliance. Traditional Chinese Medicine has accumulated a mass of methods to treat depression and is established in whole adjustment. It has the characteristics of agility in methods and security in curative effects. So Traditional Chinese Medicine has obvious superiority to treat depression and will become one of the development tendencies in future.60 patients of kidney deficiency and liver-qi stagnation are outpatients of Dongfang Hospital. 60 subjects are randomly divided into two groups: Yinao Jieyu group and Fluoxetine group, 30 cases in each group. Yinao Jieyu group is treated with Yinao Jieyu Prescription and Fluoxetine group with Fluoxetine for 6 weeks. 60 patients of liver-qi stagnation and spleen deficiency are outpatients and inpatients of the First Hospital of Peking University. 60 subjects are randomly divided into two groups: Xiaoyao Powder group and Fluoxetine group, 30 cases in each group. Xiaoyao Powder group is treated with Xiaoyao Powder and Fluoxetine group with Fluoxetine for 6 weeks. We evaluate curative effects with grade of TCM syndrome,HAMD scale and SDSS scale. Results indicates:①Curative effects are evaluated with TCM syndrome index. The total effective rate of Yinao Jieyu group is 93. 33%, and the total effective rate of Fluoxetine group is 73. 33%. There is a significant difference between the two groups. In the 6th week of treatment, clinical control rate of Yinao Jieyu group is higher than that of Fluoxetine group obviously. The total effective rate of Xiaoyao Powder group is 90. 00%, and the total effective rate of Fluoxetine group is 70. 00 %. There is also a significant difference between the two groups. In the 6th week of treatment, clinical control rate of Xiao Powder group is higher than that of Fluoxetine group obviously.②Curative effects of Yinao Jieyu Prescription on deficiency of sexuality and frequent sigh are better than those of Fluoxetine; curative effects of Yinao Jieyu Prescription on pain in the waist and back, swelling and pain in the flank and impotence of feet are faster than those of Fluoxetine; long-term curative effect of Yinao Jieyu Prescription on inattention is better than that of Fluoxetine; curative effects of Yinao Jieyu Prescription on melancholy, boredom, listlessness and tinnitus are same with Fluoxetine. Curative effects of Xiaoyao Powder on anorexia, abdominal distension are better than those of Fluoxetine; curative effect of Xiaoyao Powder on fatigue is faster than that of Fluoxetine; curative effects of Xiaoyao Powder on melancholy, frequent sigh and chest distress are same with Fluoxetine; curative effect of Fluoxetine on boredom is better than that of Xiaoyao Powder.③Curative effects are evaluated with HAMD scale. The total effective rate of Yinao Jieyu group is 86.67%, and the total effective rate of Fluoxetine group is 80.00%. There is not a significant difference between the two groups. The total effective rate of Xiaoyao Powder group is 83. 33%, and the total effective rate of Fluoxetine group is 73.33%. There is not a significant difference between the two groups, too.④Most patients of kidney deficiency and liver-qi stagnation can be healing well or change into subthreshold depression, and there is not a significant difference between the two groups. Most patients of liver-qi stagnation and spleen deficiency can be healing well or change into subthreshold depression, and there is not a significant difference between the two groups.⑤Curative effect of Yinao Jieyu Prescription on day and night changing factor is better than that of Fluoxetine; curative effects of Yinao Jieyu Prescription on anxiety/somatization factor and feeling of despair factor are faster than those of Fluoxetine; long-term curative effect of Yinao Jieyu Prescription on dyssomnia factor is better than that of Fluoxetine; curative effects of Yinao Jieyu Prescription on body weight factor, cognitive handicap factor and blockage factor are same with Fluoxetine. Curative effects of Xiaoyao Powder on anxiety/somatization factor, day and night changing factor and dyssomnia factor are better than those of Fluoxetine; curative effects of Xiaoyao Powder on body weight factor, cognitive handicap factor and blockage factor are same with Fluoxetine; curative effect of Xiaoyao Powder on feeling of despair factor is slower than that of Fluoxetine.⑥Yinao Jieyu Prescription can improve social function of patients of kidney deficiency and liver-qi stagnation more effectively than Fluoxetine. Xiaoyao Powder can improve social function of patients of liver-qi stagnation and spleen deficiency more effectively than Fluoxetine. To sum up in a word, Yinao Jieyu Prescription has satisfactory clinical curative effects while Xiaoyao Powder has satisfactory clinical curative effects and these two prescriptions have not side effects. So this research embodies characteristics and superiorities of treating depression on Chinese Medical Syndrome Differentiation.
