ObjectiveThis randomized controlled research takes clinical epidemiologic research methods, clinical research methods and statistical analysis methods to observe the clinical effect and safety of using Baihui plus Jianjing acupoints to treat cervicoshoulder myofascitis. It aims to further standardize the clinical effect and achieve better social benefit.MethodsSelect 90 qualified cervicoshoulder myofascitis patients received in Taiwan Chinese Medicine clinics between March to November 2009. Randomly classify the 90 subjects according to the rate of 1:1:1 into three groups with 30 in each group. The groups are Baihui plus Jianjing Group (Test Group), Baihui Controlled Group (Baihui Group) and Jianjing Controlled Group (Jianjing Group). Treat the patients every other day with 10 times as a curative course. Observe 1 curative course. Before and after the treatment, measure the PRI, VAS, PPI of subjects; evaluate the pain, tenderness and swelling degree, the restricted function range and muscle convulsion of the diseased region; the home range of cervical vertebra; Chinese Medicine clinical body signs and safety examination, etc. Evaluate the curative effect of Chinese Medicine syndromes and MPS curative effect after 1 treatment course.Establish database with EPIDATA 3.1 software and analyze with SPSS15.0. The group comparison takes F Test (heterogeneity of variance adopts Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test), self circa comparison takes t test or Wilcoxon rank sum test. The interclass comparison takes X2 test. The interclass comparison of ranked material takes K-W rank sum test. The making of part of the statistic graphs adopts software Graph Pad Prism 4.03.Result 1. After 1 treatment course, the three groups can lower the patients' PRI perception score, PRI sentiment score, PRI total score, VAS score, and anguish density score. It indicates that needling the Jianjing plus Baihui acupoints can effectively decrease the neck and shoulder topical pain and convulsion.2. After 1 treatment course, the three groups can improve the major clinical symptoms of cervicoshoulder myofascitis including fidgety, headache and vertigo, restricted home range of neck, upper limbs'numbness, shoulder-joint pain, restricted rotation range of shoulder joints, ability of touching the back and ear with the opposite hands, affected working and life ability and decreased upper limb muscle strength, etc. They also improve the body signs and the symptoms'disappearance rate. The Test Group has the best curative effect, but compared with the other two groups, there's no statistical difference (P>0.05)3. After 1 treatment course, the three groups can all lower the scores of Chinese Medicine symptoms, pain, home range of joints, muscle convulsion, focal tenderness and the Test Group has the greatest improvement effect. It indicates that needling Jianjing plus Baihui acupoints can effectively improve MPS patients'Chinese Medicine symptoms, pain, home range of joints, muscle convulsion, etc.4. After 1 treatment course, the MPS patients in three groups have made improvements in cervical vertebra anteflexion, retroflexion, lateral flexion and rotation. The Test Group's improvement is the most obvious and the difference has statistical significance (P<0.05). It indicates that the three groups can effectively improve the home range of patients'cervical joints with the Test Group being the best.5. After 1 treatment course, the Test Group's clinical recovery rate is 36.67%, the excellence rate is 40%, the effective power is 16.67% and the total effective power is 93.33%; the Baihui group 30%,33.33%,20%,83.33% respectively; the Jianjing Group 26.67%,33.33%,23.33% and 83.33% respectively. Compare the treatment effect of the three groups and find there's no statistical significance (P>0.05). The Test Group's clinical recovery rate, the excellence rate, and the total effective power are higher than those of the other two groups. It shows needling Jianjing and Baihui acupoints can obviously improve the clinical symptoms of MPS patients. 6. No adverse effect is found after treatment in the three groups.ConclusionTo summarize the above clinical research results:It preliminarily proves that needing Baihui plus Jianjing acupoints can effectively improve the cervicoshoulder myofascitis patients'clinical symptoms and body signs, improve the home range of the neck and shoulder joints, release pain and convulsion and accretion, and improve patients'life and working quality. It indicates that this method has high application value to treat cervicoshoulder myofascitis and it's a safe, economical, simple and effective method to treat MPS.
