The Research On Variant Words Of The Inscription In Wei-Jin And Northern-Southern Dynasties

Variant words are an important linguistic phenomenon of the inscription in Wei-Jin and Northern-Southern Dynasties which is the period of the transition for the development of Chinese language. The development of language has not been established and the variant words are used extensively.The inscriptions as an important documentary material play a huge role in the areas of politics, economy, culture and language with its great degree of authenticity and rich information. Through the materials of inscriptions we can restore to the largest extent the context of the use of variant words at that time and reveal the principles of the use of variant words.The technological development of the modern computers provides a convenient way for the study of Chinese words. Through the analysis of the database, a total of 1576 words constitute the 1759 variants in the inscription of dynasty of Wei-Jin and Southern-Northern. The relationship between these variant words is not haphazard, but constitute a variant word group with a specific and regular feature. In these groups of variant words, the different variant words can be divided in series and non-series. The series are the main relevant features between the different variant words, while the non-series reflect the chaos and complexity in written form from another perspective. Within the variant phrases, the words with two or more variant words account for very few, and most words have only one variant. Between the different variant words, its causes are sometimes different. In the Individual attributes of the variant, the inscriptions of the dynasty of Wei-Jin and Southern and Northern are have the type of simple and composite. The simply variant words have stretching terms, diego syllable words, transliterated words and onomatopoeic words, while the composite variant words have the style of the main predicate, verb-object and joint.
