The Study On Chinese Symbolic Characters Written On Stone Inscription Between Han, Wei, Jin & Northern And Southern Dynasties

The Chinese character is the only system of ideogram which is used consecutively from the ancient to today, it had developed for about several thousand years, so it isn't the original appearance that we can see today, but its xiangwuxing is weakened universally, some of them became the abstract symbol that was symbolized highly. The symbolization of Chinese character don't exist in the special period or on the stage of development, but it exists almost the whole history of Chinese characters. There were some semi-symbolic and symbolic characters which came from some ideogram and a few phongram in ancient writing stage because of the characters' pictograph was reduced, simplified, erroneous transformation, and so on.To the stage of lishu, regular script, the semi-symbolic and symbolic characters are formed in great number through the simplification and erroneous transformation of grapheme, they influenced on configuration of Chinese characters greatly. The proportion of semi-symbolic and symbolic characters is more high in used characters today. It means that the phenomenon of Chinese characters' symbolization is very important in the developmental history of Chinese characters, and has very important value on study. But the indispensable data for study is deficiency, so the study on symbolization of Chinese characters isn't thorough and systematical in academic world. The inscription of Han, Wei, Jin & Northern and Southern Dynasties take a great part in number, and they are authentic with concrete times and localities, rich material of characters, which make the valuable research data for us to study the condition of symbolization of Chinese characters of that time,especially the different symbolic character materials reflected the situation and tendency comprehensively about symbolization of scripts in inscription, and displayed how people at this time used character from one point. This thesis chooses a proper point of view, uses the scientific theories of modern common philology, combines dynamic state with static state, macroscopic with microcosmic to have an overall and thorough analysis of the basic case of the symbolization of scripts in these materials, in order to enrich the content of studying the phenomenon of symbolization of Chinese characters, reveal the law of the development of Chinese characters, and to provide the studying of the different-form characters and arrangement, reform of modern Chinese characters with some theories, materials and methods for reference.This thesis contains five chapters, on the basis of knowing the general situation of inscription symbolic characters and surveying the extent of symbolization in different levels of symbolic characters in the Han, Wei, Jin & Northern and Southern Dynasties, we mainly analyze different types of the inscription symbolic characters from the angle of process symbolization, and at the same time, we combine synchronic and diachronic methods together to discuss the trait, law, reason and the influence on the characters of later ages through a great deal of examples, etc. in order to provide authentic and valuable data for the developmental history of Chinese characters and popular form of characters.
