As the first monk's biography retained completely in China, the value of" The Biography of Eminent Monks " has long been recognized by experts who studies Buddhist and culture in different times.But there is a unique phenomenon of "emphasizing historical value not literary value" in the research of " The Biography of Eminent Monks ",which means this book has only been used as historical data,hardly been studied as a literary work. Based on the text,The thesis studies "The Biography of Eminent Monks " from literary perspective.First, we think the author who hidden himself in the book should be the most important monk. Through reading text carefully from three angles of the historical view,the buddist view and the literary view,we tries to restore the image of a great author who has only a brief description of hundreds words in the history book. Secondly,The thesis studies the overall style of "The Biography of Eminent Monks ",which has two features(the history work inclining to literary and the Buddhism inclining to Han). The book are based on the historical literature of most traditional China's way,records eminent monks as the representative of Buddhism.From some content, the writing of "The Biography of Eminent Monks " is an event to prove that Buddhism was changed by Chinese cluture by HuiJiao actively and consciously.This thesis thinks that "The Biography of Eminent Monks " fuses merits of ZhiRen novels and ZhiGuai novels at that time, therefore,forms the intertwined style of wisdom and miraculous, and makes a progress of historical literature.Thirdly, "The Biography of Eminent Monks "is divided into ten parts,adpots monks based on "noble virtue","great morality","high wisdom",puts forward a conception of "Eminent Monks Charm" to explain the common between personages and eminent monks.Comparing with personages, eminent monks are more profund and more merciful.The Mystic has the characteristic of weakening Mystic Narrative,taking Mystic Narrative as one kind of background, combining with monks'personalities and the Mystic,and finally forming unique miraculous characters。In the language section,studies prose language, dialogue language, lyrical language, and commenting language from four parts respectively:the simple,the wisdom,the purity and the beauty in the "The Biography of Eminent Monks " the study of Other factors, the characteristic of contents, the theory of translation, the relationship between literature, the humorous writing and distinctive characters, etc.Then, the cultural studies of "The Biography of Eminent Monks " focus on the Emotion of monks that is the side of "human nature"; different origins of monks revealed the different cultural psychology in specific times; the preaching wisdom of monks and the dreams description.The thesis is divided into six chapters: The first chapter discusses the author and the overall style of his works. Moreover, this chapter analyzes the style of his work by means of fusing both the Chinese and Western culture and combining the fiction and the truth to indicate that the overall style of HuiJiao's work is the interweaving between wisdom and magic power, which represents two kinds of fictions of great value at that period, that is, the literary characteristics of fictions concerning people and strange events.The second chapter deals with the main idea of the text—the noble or lofty concept. It discusses the superiority of eminent monk from the following three angles, lofty character, true virtue and much wisdom, hence to sum up the concept of refined manner of an eminent monk.The third and fouth chapters analyze Prose language,dialogue language, lyrical language, and compliments language from four perspectives of simple language, intellectual, real,beautiful, And last parts is considered by people to fully demonstrated HuiJiao's ability to control the language because of profound and beautiful writing.The fifth Chapter is to study the other literature factors that appeared in" The Biography of Eminent Monks ", including the value and role of various literary style frequently used in this book, during the time of Scriptures Translating and singing lead famous " The Biography of Eminent Monks "unconscious made literary form and phonological style,the book showing humorous style of writing,Image of various characters and so on.The sixth Chapter focuses on outside research, which analyze religion culture such as the relation of famous monks and times'sprit, the effect of communicate Buddhist doctrine by famous monks in biographical work. There are two focal points in this chapter, the first one is the comparing research between a lot of record of dreams in " The Biography of Eminent Monks " and dreams culture in Chinese historical records.The second one is revelation of eminent monks'death and impaction to Chinese culture brought this kind of death.The Conclusion summarizes the main contents and important points in the whole text, the creation of" The Biography of Eminent Monks " by author who made the activities of the Buddhism in China is an event. as a biographical works, which shows merits like actual situation, elegantly written, richcontent at this period.
