Buddhism developed energetically during Wei Jin South and North Dynasty. The thesis undertakes the research into figures of Buddhists based on the Biography of Eminent Monks, and attempts to explore the important transition and influence of figures of Buddhist on the intellectuals in Wei Jin South and North Dynasty. The thesis illustrates the consistency between Buddhists and Intellectuals through the Translation of the Buddhist Scripture and the contribution of intellectual Monks to Buddhism philosophy, history and bibliography. In order to make up the absent research in the academe, the thesis analyzes the Buddhist figure and its process, characteristics and influence based on the Biography of Eminent Monks. The analysis can be divided into three portions. The first portion indicates four styles of Buddhists and their characteristics tending to ideal Confucianist figures; The second portion exemplifies the process of shaping of Buddhist figures and thus points out that the process embodies the concrete cultural activities in the social reality; The third portion summarizes the characteristics of Buddhists and influence on the developing process of Chinese Buddhism subsequently.
