The purpose of this dissertation is research on the ethnic Chinese in Singapore. The different theories and methods were used in the study, which included the theories and approaches from subject of history, sociology and anthropology, university and typicality research. In this paper, the life world, ethnic relations and identity of ethnic Chinese in Singapore were examined. By field theory and the social power theory, the source and operation of social power of ethnic Chinese in Singapore were analyzed.By using the "cultural nexus of power "on the research of symbolic system and social organization, this dissertation points out that ethnic major source of social problems of the ethnic chinese in Singapore is the unique social structure culture structure and psychological structure of immigrant society. Through the research of cultural and educational development of Ethnic Chinese in Singapore, the duality that Ethnic Chinese in Singapore not only trying to establish identity, but also stressed the subjectivity Is revealed.Through the research of relationship between ethnic Chinese and other ethnic groups in Singapore, models and methods which ethnic Chinese used to construct the identity were summarized.By facing three different "other"; British colonists, Malayan, Chinese culture, Ethnic Chinese in Singapore adopted different rules to distinguish itself from or identify itself with other ethnic groups. At the same time, Gentry from China was also observing the western world and Chinese ethnic groups via Singapore...
