On Luo Zhen-yu's Contributions To Chinese Progress Of Learning During The Late Qing Dynasty And Early Republic Period

Luo Zhenyu was a famous scholar in modern China,who was born at Huaian in Jiangsu province in 1966.His ancestral home is Shangyu in Zhejiang province.And he was dead at Lushun in Liaoning province in 1940,at the age of 74 years old.When he was young,he devoted to enlightenment,and originated Nongbao (Agronomy newspaper) and Japanese translation school.After 1911 revolution, He became conservative and want to restore monarchy.In 1931,he joined Manchuguo and became a traitor in Chinese history.But in academia, he had made brilliant achievements. He opened up studies of inscription on Oracle Bone and bamboo slips,studies of ancient things and Dunhuang documents.IN addition,he compiled and published a lot of books,made great contributions to protecting Chiese culture and historical materials.This article is devided into six parts.The first part introduces the young age of his academic accomplishments,and his scholarship foundation and academic origins.The second section describes the facts that he joined in enlightment and introduced western learning after 30-year-old.The third section describes his achievements in Dunghuang studies,oracle bone studies,bamboo slips studies,ancient thing Studies and other new learnings after he joined in Xuebun(the Education Ministry).In addition,I introduce his contribution to protecting files which was found in the Cabinet and Dunhuang documents.The fourth sections describes his accomplishments when he lived in Kyoto of Japan,which of Dunhuang studies,studies of history and geography in northwest China,studies of Oracle Bone and ancient things,studies of ancient documents kept in Japan.The fifth sections decribes his activities after he return to China. I introduce the facts that he fostered the talent,created research institution of Oriental Culture studies,and continued to research Dunhuang documents, oracle bones and ancient things.The sixth sections introduce his purpose of scholarly research and academic origins.Then I compare Luo Zhenyu with Wang Guowei between academic.Basing on the analysis of background in the Late Qing Dynasty, this article study the achievements and contributions which Luo Zhenyu made in many fields of Chinese historical philology.Then I Sumarize and analyze his spirit of scholarship, research methods,evaluate how important that he was in the modern academic history of China.So far,this is the first doctoral thesis which makes systematic study of the achievements that Luo Zhenyu obtained in historical philology. Most of article analysize some piece of his academic,there was extremely few monographs which make synthesized, through and thorough research. The only several books about him was mostly written by his descendants,which were mainly his biography and memoirs.Overall,Study of Wang Guo is heat while study of Luo Zhenyu is cold,this is not match with the Luo Zhenyu's academic importance. Academic needs of contention, Luo xue (study of Luo Zhenyu) also needs to learn the different sounds, the situation that only Roche's descendants research this subject need to break.This article uses methods which academic history research commonly used.I pay attention to his academic achievement and his academic activities and contacts.Ohterwise,I focus on discovering some unkown details,which maybe helpful for understanding his academic characteristic and spirit.This article centers on his academic performance in historical bibliography,and does not refer to the political aspect too much. This article focuses on the facts how he published and researched the new historical materials,for the purpose of describing his influence to new history and new national studies. As a result of the specialized habit, I discuss his achievements of researching the discoveries in Dunhuang and Xiyu(western region in China.) emphatically.Traditional research stresses exterior performance of Luo Zhenyu'scholarship.This thesis combines his specific academic domain,discusses inner things about his learning such as his academic nature,learning methods,and academic origins. Through horizontal and vertical comparison, I discuss his position in the history of Late Qing Dynasty and his contributions to historic document learning.I also compare his academic with Wang Guowei,discuss the differences and similarities between them.So people can understand Luo wang's learning deeply.
