The article stated its diversity, from Nietzsche's irrationalism to Bell's conservatism.We found that Marx's cultural criticism always playes its influence to the modern western clutural criticism, including Lefebvre's existentialism, Althusser's structuralism, Debord's situationist and Baudrillard's consumerism. They consistently keep in touch with Marx's cultural criticism in some surprising ways. On the one hand,they helplessly require to return to Marx. On the other hand,they theoretically urge to beyond Marx anyway. The article expressed their complicated mentlity and studied their gains and losses. It is considered that the judgements can't be made out whether there is a ture image of Marx in the modern western cultural criticism, before we begin to thoroughly and systematically study Marx's cultural criticism. We must back to Marx's texts and reconstruct it.Through Marx's texts, Marx's two critical tasks are established firstly, including the critique of practical life and the critique of theoretical life. The former is reflected in the criticism of alienated labor and the socialist movement. The latter is mainly reflected in the criticism of religion,ideology,philosophy and political economy. We should emphasis on Marx's critical methods. His practical materialism is fundamentally different from idealism and intuitive materialism. Based on the above two tasks, we constructed four areas on Marx's cultural criticism, including the critique of religion,the critique of ideology,the criticism of forms of goods'value and the criticism of alienated labor. We investigated their logical paths. We strongly consider that the most important part of Marx's cultural criticism is its theoretical basis points. The article used three perspectives to in-depth inerpretate Marx's cultural criticism, including existential care,practical propositions and ultimate pursuits. Marx's existential care gradually expanded on four respects, including the reality of workers,cause of alienated labor,social division of labor and the formation of social classes. Marx's practical propositions included political emancipation and communist movement. Marx's ultimate pursuits included freedom and people-oriented.Finally, we discussed the contemporary value of Marx's cultural criticism. When the critique of modernity fallen into dilema, Marx's cultural criticism highlights us, especially on the issues of the modern transformation of chinese culture. We must uphold Marx's cultural criticism.
