As an important historical period of traditional architecture, in many respects, architecture of Liao Dynasty retains the architectural features of the Tang Dynasty and provide rare instances for study on architecture of Tang Dynasty. Bricky pagoda of Liao Dynasty has a unique regional and age characteristics ,and has an important impact on development of pagoda in later.So, it should be elaborates systematically as an important building type. Based on the information from Site investigation and literature, this paper makes analysis on four main issues, the types. region division, period division and age of the bricky pagoda constructed in liao dynasty,and gaines some important knowledgeIn first section, the paper reviews the nearly a century of investigation and study on the pagodas of Liao Dynasty from Chinese and foreign scholars, and simply intruduces the basic situation and the main results obtained.The second part analyzes the main types of bricky pagodas constructed in Liao Dynasty, and divides bricky pagoda into five types, namely, eaves-styled brick pagoda,attic-styled brick pagoda,compound brick pagoda,"flower-styled brick pagoda"and single-eave-styled brick pagoda. From shape characteristics, the article divides the firat two main types into six style. The third section is about the study of partition on bricky pagodas of Liao Dynasty. According to the characteristics of different regions of the Liao Dynasty pagoda, this paper divides the whole region into three major region and two Sub-region and analyses the separate characteristics of each region..Section Four divides these bricky pagodas of Liao Dynasty into two successive periods, namely Early Liao Period (916AD----1057AD) and Late Liao Period (1057AD---1125AD), and then,divides the Early Liao Period into two times and summarized the separate characteristics of each periods and times.With the above conclusiones, fifth section analyzes and confirms separately which period each bricky pagoda belong to. Finally, the paper summarizes conclusions of each chapters and proposes some issues should be studied furtherly. |
