Journals of popular literature have been gradually academically noticed, and evenbeen picked as Modern Literature and Ancient Literature masters' thesis topics. A numberof influential popular literary magazines as a case study are to make up for the study ofPopular Literature Journals in Modern Literature. Is there relationship between thesepopular literary magazines in addition to journal contents and features? Can these contactsexplain some phenomena in the process of development of the popular literary Journals? This thesis continues the study of popular literary journals based on these problems from anew perspective. The paper conducts the first style study of popular literature journals in1910-1920s.The author considers Saturday as "a gifted scholar's style journal" with elegace inpopularity, and Short Story Monthly (1910-1920) as "a gentleman's style journal" withpopularity in elegace, while thinking Story World as a market style with combination ofpopularity and elegace under the background of popular literature journals transiting to thereader market. The introduction of this paper relates to conceptual definition about Popular LiteraryJournal,Popular Literature Writer,Popular Literature and the basis of the selected title. It also includes summarizing and analyzing the current study of Saturday,Short StoryMonthly,Story World as well as significance and innovation of this thesis. At last,it alsoconcludes the research objective, focal points and difficulties as well as the theoreticalsupport of the thesis. The main body of the paper tries to combine the macro levels andmicro levels,so that it has both the macro-theoretical perspective and the micro case studies. A macro perspective can enhance the micro-analysis,the microscopic examinationcan enrich the macroscopic meaning. The thesis tries to have certain journal coverage.According to this clue, this thesis can be divided into four parts.Chapter one clarifies Shanghai's economic, social and cultural basis. In the late QingDynasty,as well as the popular literary journal A Remarkable Book on the Sea is publishedand its significance. Shanghai is the headquarters of the popular literary journals andprovides modern production and dissemination of popular literature journals. ARemarkable Book on the Sea creates a new mode of literary production.Chapter two revolves around Saturday genius journal style,It is expanded from sixaspects:First, the concept of genius and Saturday journal status. Second, the 'genius' stylein Saturday. Third,Saturday's theme and artistic practices. Fourth, the editorial concept ofSaturday. Fifth, product placement in Saturday's text. Sixth, slogan and the cover theinscription in Saturday.Chapter three focuses on the Gentleman journal style in Short Story Monthly(1910-1920). I believe that Short Story Monthly is a gentleman's style journal fromSaturday in traditional publications. It is related to the editor of Short Story Monthly YunTieqiao's editorial philosophy 'Chinese tradition should be followed as the essenceï¼›western learning as the practical application'. To further illustrate the characteristics of thispublication, the author uses Gentlemen's Conflict to interpret the two lead authors QianJibo and Lin Qinnan's grudges and Yun Tieqiao's attitude. At last, the author use womenand marriage problems from the perspective of Gentlemen and Storytelling in Short StoryMonthly (1910-1920) as two cases research,to enhance the reader's impression of theGentleman style in the journal.Chapter four focuses on the journal style of Story World. Short Story Monthlychanged into a new literary journal from popular literary journal with the revision of Shortstory Monthly in1921,a part of Short story Monthly' readers became readers of thepopular literary journals published in other bookstores. The Story World published in1923is a way which attracted the readers of World Publishing house and Dadong BookBureau, and a result of cultural market. Also, the readers' knowledge structure changed alot as 'New Culture Movement','Literary Revolution' and concepts about society philosophy ideology culture and science which are spread from Western Europe Americaand Japan into China. Story World can not go back to the old traditional road. In order toadapt to the new reader market,Story World has characteristics of a 'suit both refined andpopular tastes' Integrated journal. Of course, these characteristics of the journal are relatedto the editorial philosophy of the editor Ye Jingfeng. The author selects three aspectsaround the reader market:First, choose the magazine column 'Editor and Reader' of StoryWorld and analyze how it makes public discourse spaceï¼›Second,in view of Story World isfirst mentioned in the domestic, the author analyzes that how the 'Screen Art' captures thehot market demandï¼›Third, the author analyze Story World' concept of advertising andmarketing on the Market Context. The epilogue is still concerned about the performance of popular literary journals inthe early1920s from the surface along the Development of the three journals. The authorbelieves that the reader's knowledge structure and reading habits have changed since theNew Culture Movement and the Literary Revolution, especially after the revision ofShort Story Monthly. The popular literary journals had to make a choice in front of the newcultural market, parts of them facing the difficulties of journal issue had been ceased, whilethe other parts were prosperous through keeping the readers satisfied in order to adapt tothe new reader market, specifically reflecting the different variations of theinterrelationship between these journals, narrative technique and novel types.
