Xinjiang is called an autonomous region of prose. There has appeared a group of representive writers of modern prose such as Zhou Tao, Liu Liangcheng, Yerkesh, Li Juan. This paper, under the background of cultural geography of Xinjiang, examines the modern prose writing in Xinjiang, and demonstrates the ethnic and regional features of modern prose writing in Xinjiang from the perspective of space. The cultural geography shapes the cultural qualities of modern prose in Xinjiang.This paper falls into five chapters.Chapter One summarizes the three subjects in writing:cultural geography, cultural geography in Xinjiang and modern prose of Xinjiang by means of tracing their origins. Firstly, this paper clarifies relevant conceptss and key words of cultural geography. Secondly, Xinjiang is a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural region with diversified humantistic history, nationalities and religions and landscapes. Lastly, in order to present the image and force of modern prose of Xinjiang in the literary field of China, the paper elaborats on the history development of modern prose writing in Xinjiang, the writer groups of modern prose of Xinjiang and their principal writers and works.Chapter Two analyses the cultural geography of modern propse of Xinjiang. The natural environment, economic and political environment, and ethnic and religious environment have played different roles in shaping the modern prose of Xinjiang. The construction of the cultural geography of modern prose writers in Xinjiang and their distribution, status, and descriptive methods, their two-dimensional cultural mentality in their creation, and their cultural attitude of compatibility, inclusiveness, and tolerance demonstrate that the cultural spirit of Xinjiang is natural, anxious and optimistic.Chapter Three introduces the natural ecology of the modern prose of Xinjiang. The modern prose of Xinjiang about the walk of the earth display the scenery of Xinjiang, obtains the dynamic and quality of prose writing. The scenery, living things of Xinjiang occupy an important position of modern prose writing of Xinjiang and the writing of horses, cattle, and sheeps and goats are to a greater degree the display of the typical terrestrial features of Xinjiang. What modern prose writers of Xinjiang displays if the distinctiveness, freshness, and uniqueness of the scenery of Xinjiang, which determines the relations between writers and naturalness, truthfulness, and forms of life, and shows the relations between writers of Xinjiang and its natural geography.Chapter Four offers mainly an analysis of the influence of the multicultural factors on modern prose writers in Xinjiang. Only by placing moder Xinjiang prose in the visual field of Xinjiang culture can we have a better understanding of the cultural features in it. Two indispensable cultural geographic factors play a decisive role in modern Xinjiang prose, i.e. the geographic factor of nomadic culture, and the geographic factor of oasis culture, both of which are the special qualities of cultural memory and spirit experienced by modern prose writers in Xinjiang, determining the values, world lookout, and even artistic conception of modern prose-writers writing in Chinese in Xinjiang. For prose writers from different nationalities in Xinjiang, their cultural backgrounds, cultural visual fields, and cultural psychologies are usually a cultural mixture, and it is a hybrid cultural attitude. The plural cultural factors of Xinjiang bestow wisdom and brilliance on the modern prose of Xinjiang, making it have a unique cultural atmosphere of Xinjiang.Chapter Five mainly tells about the cultural symbols of modern prose of Xinjiang-life, home, wasteland, which are the cultural symbols and life symbols of Xinjiang cultural geography in modern Xinjiang prose. Modern Xinjiang prose writers experience and construct the close relations between Xinjiang cultural geography and modern Xinjiang prose with their unique understanding of Xinjiang cultural geography. Prephery, worry, wandering, grief, and fear are the key words in the expression of life in modern Xinjiang prose. These, by means of life and cultural symbols of mental perception, elevates the exotic flavor to a state of frontier humanistic meaning. In modern Xinjiang prose, the feelings of history, age, and dignity are prevalent, constituing a background of desolation of Xinjiang, a border area.Modern prose writers in Xinjiang appreciate the tone and flavor and charm of Xinjiang cultural geography with their lives, showing their deep love for Xinjiang.
