The Geographic Magazine was the first academic geographic journal published and issued in China.since its founding in 1910,despite a little more than three years,it continually published 181 issues of journals and transferred from monthly to quarterly.Among all the articles on history and geography of borderland in China, there were 119 articles relative to Xinjiang, which deeply researched and reported geography, history, politics, border defense as well as economy of this area.Through the huge impact of the magazine itself,it brought this remote corner of the northwest,Xinjiang, into all Chinese citizens'sights no matter where they are, making itself a tunnel to know about and understand Xinjiang. In the early 20th century, the increasing frontier crisis and expedition to the west largely stimulated domestic elites to explore history and geography in the northwest. They observed and explored this mysterious area with an entirely new perspective and an unprecedented breadth and depth, showing their image and comprehension to Xinjiang in the period from 1910 to 1937 on the Geographic Magazine. This essay first summarizes the characteristics mentioned in the reports on Xinjiang hierarchically by organizing, analyzing and resolving them, and thus evaluates the research as a whole. This essay demonstrates that the passions and enthusiasm to Xinjiang by the authors of the Geographic Magazine show a strong patriotism in spite of its limitations on specific time, territory and vision.By using a detached attitude, scientific approach and developmental perspective, they inspected and studied Xinjiang with a both multiple and unified respect based on Chinese culture, which had a profound impact on enhancing the relations between Xinjiang and other areas in China, getting a clear understanding of frontier crisis in the northwest, promoting ethnic relations in Xinjiang and also facilitating the local development.
