Water Conservancy Project, Society And Politics

Between1958and1962, the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee used political high-handed measures and mobilized various social resources to implement the Yintao Water Project. The background of."the Great Leap Forward" provided an excellent experimental stage for this project. It's no doubt that the Project was a mass-based one as the famous saying said "From ancient times, people had the will of Yintao;but by the leadship of CPC, the will come true".But the beautiful wish was turned out to be an exaggerated slogan--"Three hard years, Bring water to mountain; Elimination of drought, Benefiting generations". The Utopian ideas made all villagers to give up their limited food and other resources to support this Project. In the particular work-site society, the villages obey the upper rules and instructions constantly because of almighty politics. This research examined that how the particular work-site society formate, operate and collapse.There are three arrangement of ideas in this paper:first, describe the whole events of this Project using lots of first-hand archives;second, give more details about the Great Leap Forward and Famine of Gansu Province; third, summarize the character of the work-site society and the relation between Water conservancy and the CPC Politics.There are9chapters in this paper. Chapter l: The natural conditions and social environment in central Gansu Province;Chapter2:The Yintao Water Project launched hastily (Early1958-June1958). The first two parts explain how and why the Yintao Water Project could be launched.The work-site society is the key word of the following6chapters which will tell us how does it formate, operate and collapse. Chapter3:How do the rural labourers live in the work-site society everyday? Chapter4:How do the rural labourers work in the work-site society everyday? Chapter5:How do the Political movement impact on the labourers in the work-site society everyday? Chapter6:How do the person response and react to the politics in the work-site society? Chapter7:When The Great Famine arrived, how do people react?Chapter8:How to deal with the collapse of the worksite society. The last chapter is conclusion about the character of the work-site society and the revolution logic between Water conservancy and the CPC Politics.
