This dissertation attempts to describe the narration on wealth (ownership of property) of the literature of "New Era"(Xin Shiqi) in order to return to the historical situation of1980s. The pivotal problem I want to discuss is that if we dissatisfy with the dominate narration on1980s and refuse to settle for some sorts of antagonistic "description" which can not form a historical narration-----this "description is always trivial, anti-systematic and addicts to the complexity and multiplicity of1980s, how do we restate the totality of "China in Refom" in the1980s by which some new understanding and interpretation for the literature studies of "New Era" could be brought about. To put it directly, if the idea and imagination on wealth (including ownership of property, the mode of production of wealth, the distribution of wealth, the desire for materials, consumption and the "system of things" etc.) of people determines their understanding of "humanity", political legitimacy (right, justice etc.) and good and ethical-world on which the dominate historical narration more or less relies to form themselves, we could restate the origin and dynamics of the reform of1980s and its kinship with the socialist revolution, and the direction and process of the reform and its internal crisis, and the effort to overcome this crisis and its failure by digging into this filed without any constraint of thinking and reaching the "reality" of complicated history. In so doing, we could finally clarify the fact that how the reform of1980s led to the contemporary time and what kind of rupture and transformation fell down upon it. Then, we could begin to construct a new narration. Moreover, if the ontology of literature could be nothing but the existentialism showing how the human encounter their world and the mode of literary writing could be regarded as the appreciation, imagination and longing on and for human's world, this dissertation tries to integrate the process of the Reform and the literature of New Era to find out the trace of literature its thrust which result from the Reform and confirm the internal relationship between the literature, the spirit of time and the ethical situation by focusing on the imagination, narration on wealth of the literature of New Era. The purpose of this project is to understand the essence and form of literature of1980s and its relationship with the historical conditions. In so doing, the literature studies could show its opinions and suggestions on Chinese politics, history and society and proves to be an organic component of totality. With this plan, my dissertation is composed of three parts, which respectively introduce three kinds of ideas on wealth and the vision of the way of development of China which relies on the above-mentioned ideas according to the time order. In the revolutionary China, to be selfless person is a ideal for everyone. In the first part, I try to focus on the request of "selflessness" and "critique of Bourgeoise right" and show their contradiction and failure in the practice. In the second part, I attach attention to the principle of "distribution according to work"(this principle was considered as the liberation from Bourgeoise right") to discuss the historical condition of the early1980s:which imagination of totality was ignited by this principle. Resorting to this idea, the Reform not only got progress in economy but also showed its political legitimacy even won the imaginative support. Meanwhile, this part discusses the failure of vision of "distribution according to work" which led to the homelessness of people. That failure also brings about the third part which shows the rupture and transformation of "Reform" in which the mentioned political legitimacy, the determination of human and imagination lost their power and effectivity and a new self understanding must be sought. As is known to all, the literature of1980s spent ten years to pass through the course which the western literature had spent one hundred year to pass. Then, my dissertation tries to restate the story of1980s to seek for a better interpretation about the radical transformation and its inner dynamics of literature of New Era.
