Adomo is a prominent representative of contemporary neo-marxism as well as the first generation member of Frankfurt School. His negative dialectics provides profound theoretical basis and philosophical development for the critical theory of Frankfurt School including critique of ideology, the mass culture , technical reason , psychological mechanism and character structure. This paper traces back to the origin of negative dialectics, expounds the time background of Adorno抯 thoughts, analyses the central idea of negative dialectics and distinguishes the complex relationship of his thoughts with other thoughts such as classical philosophy, Marxism philosophy, the first generation neo-Marxist, the other representatives of Frankfurt School, modern western philosophy, and so on. In the author抯 opinion, Adorno抯 negative dialectics is based on the praxis philosophy initiated by Marx and enhances Marx抯 dialectics spirit of critical negation on the basis of the praxis of subject, and combines this spirit with the transformation of philosophical paradigm during 19 to 20 century. His thoughts reflects the profound critical nature and liberal nature of Marxism. The relationship between Adorno抯 thoughts and postmodernism philosophy indicates the possibility of combining Marxism philosophy and postmodemism philosophy. Although Adomo has some different ideas from Marxism and his thoughts may not be completely correct, after all, he has conveyed, in a unique and vigorous way, the spirit of Marxism. That is the spirit of critical negation and the spirit of seeking truth from facts. His thoughts give us an active theoretical and practical significance.
