China and India both have extremely brilliant ancient civilization and long relationship history. The mutual promotion of the civilization and intercourse have made China and India coming to a higher development level in the thought and culture realm successively . The culture intercourse between China and India keeps on a long time, the contents plentiful variety. The most influence to Chinese region is the intercourse of Buddhism culture among them. In the course of Buddhism culture intercourse, the Indian monks who arrived at China had played a important role to spread Buddhism culture in China. They made with the spreading Buddhism to east as their duty, they experienced the chill and blazing hot, trudged on the danger route. They had spreaded and translated the sutra in Chinese region, publicized and expanded the Buddhist theories, made the Buddhism gradually thriving in the Chinese region, till Buddhism merged in Chinese culture tradition and then formed Chinese Buddhism.For many problems of the Indian Buddhism and the Chinese Buddhism, the conclusions from former researcher are not only very systemic and comprehensive, but also very profound. Yet the former researcher involved the less on the problems such as the data of the Indian monks who came to Chinese region, the characteristics of the Indian monks arriving at China , and the influence of the Buddhism to Chinese region from the Indian monks etc. However the problems are flat the study points of this text.On the foundation of drawing lessons and references from former researcher, this paper will primarily resolved four problems at below:First, this research completely roundly has observed and studied the data of the Indian monks who arrived at Chinese region;Second, this research has divided the course (from A. D. to tenth century) of the Indian monks arriving at Chinese region into three stages to investigate, based on the consistent development characteristics of the society and Buddhism of China and India;Third, this research had opened out peculiarities of the Indian monk colony arrivingChinese region in the different period and its importance influence towards Chinese Buddhism. Through the meticulously investigating, the stories of the Indian monks spreading and translating Buddhist sutra in three stages, combining the concrete development characteristics of the society and Buddhism of China and India;Finally, through the summarization and comparison of different stages of Indian monks coming to China, the research has discovered that in the period of East - Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasty, many Indian monks not only had made the affect of summarizing former result on the spreading and translating Buddhist sutra, but also guided the development venation of the Chinese Buddhism to the mature system of the Indian Buddhism, thus promoted the development and ripeness of the Chinese Buddhism. Therefore the Indian monks' arrival at the Chinese areas in that period had extremely important influence and profound meaning. And the influence was more important than that the period of Sui and Tang Dynasty when the intercourse between China and foreign country were actively.Therefore, along with the deepened study gradually, there are some importance problems demanded discussing and resolving. For example, the problem about the promotion of the whole culture intercourse from the India monks, should be consummately resolved through all-sided, in-depth research to the monks' stories and correlational sutra, combining the each cultural characteristics of China and India. Thus could get accurate and authentic conclusions . In addition, the more brand-new and all - sided research results concerning this problem from foreign country, could make it further deepened.
